This year, we were early enough. After a warm spell, followed by a cool and rainy day, we found several female Fire Salamanders on their way to give birth to their larvae.

Having some people realising their better options out there might in fact be a better option for all staying on this planet.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The latest European Grassland Butterfly Indicator is out. It shows that grassland butterflies have declined by 47% since 1991, indicating a huge loss of grassland biodiversity. The data come from 16,150 transects & 15,000 volunteers. We are calling for urgent action. www.bc-europe.eu/documents/69...

US bars five Europeans it says pressured tech firms to censor American viewpoints online The State Department is barring five Europeans it accuses of leading efforts to pressure U.S. tech firms to censor or suppress American viewpoints.

To be clear: the CEO's of HateAid have recently been awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit for their support of human rights and dignity. Concepts rather alien to the Trump administration.

It should be: trust the scientific method. It will in most cases lead to much better results. This is a subtly different way of communication - honest, not arrogant - and may generate trust rather than scepticism.

As record heat continues to impact communities across the nation, this is what is in that proposed budget: 🌡️

"With this termination, NOAA will no longer support the National Integrated Heat Health Information System" (aka NIHHIS or heat[dot]gov)

Excerpt from proposed NOAA budget showing zero funding for Climate Laboratories and Cooperative Institutes

Excerpt from proposed NOAA budget showing zero funding for Climate Laboratories and Cooperative Institutes

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions.

GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc.

This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth.

The tongue of Rhone #Glacier ten days after my last visit. Can you guess how much ice melted away? 1️⃣ meter in terms of thickness! 1️⃣0️⃣ days... And that's just the beginning of the summer season.
We know the times are bad for the ice, but still it is hard to accept these numbers!
