This year, we were early enough. After a warm spell, followed by a cool and rainy day, we found several female Fire Salamanders on their way to give birth to their larvae.
Having some people realising their better options out there might in fact be a better option for all staying on this planet.
@wegenercenter.bsky.social @uni-graz.at
#DidYouKnow many conservation policies lack strong scientific evidence? The @ipbes.net #BizBiodiversity report highlights the urgent need for better data on what works and what doesn’t. Let's build a future where decisions are evidence-based!

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The latest European Grassland Butterfly Indicator is out. It shows that grassland butterflies have declined by 47% since 1991, indicating a huge loss of grassland biodiversity. The data come from 16,150 transects & 15,000 volunteers. We are calling for urgent action. www.bc-europe.eu/documents/69...
"Deforestation is accelerating, underscoring Indonesia’s reputation as a big GHG emitter...Gross deforestation in Indonesia in 2025 was on track to at least match 2024’s tally, which reflected the most extensive losses since 2019."

To be clear: the CEO's of HateAid have recently been awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit for their support of human rights and dignity. Concepts rather alien to the Trump administration.

Trump is damaging climate science. Trump is destroying American leadership. Trump is screwing up his country and the future of its children.
Inspiring book. Lots of wisdom, humbleness and respect for nature as well as local communities and their knowledge. www.hachette.co.uk/titles/david...

Hope this paper led by @stefansobo.bsky.social will become the new standard in designing regional climate model ensembles.

It should be: trust the scientific method. It will in most cases lead to much better results. This is a subtly different way of communication - honest, not arrogant - and may generate trust rather than scepticism.
The future of climate science is more diverse, more connected, and more collaborative.
We need every voice, every perspective, every mind to solve what’s ahead.

As record heat continues to impact communities across the nation, this is what is in that proposed budget: 🌡️
"With this termination, NOAA will no longer support the National Integrated Heat Health Information System" (aka NIHHIS or heat[dot]gov)

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions.
GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc.
This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth.

The tongue of Rhone #Glacier ten days after my last visit. Can you guess how much ice melted away? 1️⃣ meter in terms of thickness! 1️⃣0️⃣ days... And that's just the beginning of the summer season.
We know the times are bad for the ice, but still it is hard to accept these numbers!
