The irony is the bundled approach is genuinely more user-friendly. Fewer purchases, fewer compatibility issues, more cohesive workflows. Charging for continued development isn't greed, it's sustainability.

Exactly this. It's a lose-lose framing. Bundle everything into few feature-rich addons - "greedy for charging updates." Split into many smaller one - "greedy for selling so many products." The goalpost moves because the real objection is paying at all.
Nice one. You've compromised and found a balance. I hope it works for you . I wonder how feasible it is for someone with multiple products, each maintained and evolved over a decade. There maybe an acceptable middle ground, but it definitely does come at additional cost for the dev.
Free lifetime updates aren’t sustainable, nor were creators ever obligated to provide them. Some individual devs may have promised them, and I hope people can be understanding about that.
In my case, I never made that promise, yet I’m being accused of going back on it.
Clearly I'm supportive of creators being paid for the work they do however, so I applaud SH's decision to highlight the struggles creators experience in the market, and attempting to set a new standard.
Note, this is just a comment. I have neither condoned nor opposed the currently discussed SH changes, nor am I responsible for them (what?).
I have introduced paid updates for MACHIN3tools last year, independently of SH. Nothing about it has changed: machin3.io/MACHIN3tools...

People opposed to paid updates, often make one or both of these suggestions. Here's why it can't work like that. Not for my huge workflow addons anyway #b3d

It's bad with a small minority of people unfortunately. Insane entitlement and complete ignorance of the realities of the blender addon development or software dev in general. Also it seems like these people don't seem to understand what they are getting with MACHIN3tools.
Thanks man.
A lot more coming with 1.14. I'm quite excited about it.
Please understand that these breakages are not the addon's fault. It's literally expected, IF you update to a new Blender version. Don't be like mauri either please: updates, even mere compatibility updates, can require considerable extra work. Work that has to be paid for somehow.
And no, it's not a subscription. In fact it's the cheapest option I could make it in favor of re-releasing the addon as a new full priced version, as some other addon devs have a habit of doing. See machin3.io/MACHIN3tools...

Unfortunately, Blender breaking addons is par for the course, and in general I'm always in favor for the API changes they introduce, it usually is for the better. However, that does tend to put (at times a lot) extra work on addon devs.
Please see machin3.io/MACHIN3tools... too
I had to pause the actually intended release (with various new features), and did this one that's mostly Blender 5.0 compatibility and other bug fixes, exactly because 5.0 introduces so many breaking changes.
Neither #PUNCHit nor #CURVEmachine seem to require changes for Blender 5.0, and so get my👍
Definitely let me know if you find any issues though. #b3d
