Or the past simply drifting on into the present, given they could never let the bloody thing when they built it as offices anyway.

Pretty though.

6 weeks post slipped disc and the physio finally says I can go for a (short, and slow) run again.

I have of course been saving a new football shirt for the occasion of being allowed some proper exercise again.

Time to take the tags off finally.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Anyhow, I guess my challenge to the estate agent now is to get a price far enough over the valuation to pay for their fees. And so capitalism goes on fucking people to pay for the opportunists who add little to no value.

I'd always defended SO up till now. Have had some great benefits out of it, but this just seems notably disingenuous but totally counter productive to the housing association, to lose an asset and rent etc just by default.

My flat is worth not a penny more than when I bought it 10 years ago. So put simply, the now immense estate agent fee I will have to pay on 100% of the value will take about £15k our of my equity in a quarter of the flat.

Amazing new level of Shared Ownership fuckery. Notting Hill now inform me that they've raised the rent and service so much over 10 years that my share is no longer within affordable constraints and 100% must be sold on the open market if I want to move.

Pretty much. Although to be honest, from the near outside looking in, being savvy and agile is not a pre-requisite for making money in property development unless you are particularly bothered about indulging the architectural hobby bit.

...and, mainly, to keep the AJ in business.

Which I'd jokingly thought to myself was the motivation for the listicle when I clicked on the headline. But then is pretty much explicitly stated at the end.

Will protection of function save us? We might not still be here by then.

The AJ 16 reasons to still be an architect article may be the most compelling summary I've read promoting the idea of packing it in.

Why still be an architect? Because of all the stuff you care deeply about which, while being both essential and rewarding, no-one will ever pay you for...

…to look forward to.

Happy thoughts welcome, and anyone who can reassure me a slipped disc and sciatica in your mid forties doesn’t spell the end of your running hobby for good?

Think that’s finally the undisputed death of my football career though.

…against a backdrop of unprecedentedly busy work life and all the background worry of geopolitical turmoil, household finances and all the rest.

It’s going to get better right? Got the right valuation on our flat, soon hopefully in the market for our forever home and a 10th wedding anniversary…

Feeling very sorry for myself after a 1st week of the new year that’s brought a day in A&E diagnosing a slipped disc and a (very pricey) suite of meds, vet visits and now double surgery for the cat. Viewing our dream house fell through and then it was sold before we saw it, all in a week.

All that…

Oh shit, just remembered that Charlie Wrights International Bar existed. That was a time right?

Don’t get me started on the original Electricity Showroom…

I mean, in fairness it’s probably my own fault for looking. I need to be protected from myself. And merry Christmas to you too!

Is anything more flimsily post rationalised than the golden section?

In other news, had genuinely forgotten Sesko played for Utd till he just came on.

I promise I’m not firing out five questions a day, guess I’ve just hit the nail on the head a few times! Think I’ve probably asked about 6 or 7 questions over the years, so 50%ish hit rate not too bad eh?

A full house of sorts this week.

One of my questions picked up on the Totally Football show.

One on Handbrake Off a few weeks ago to following a whole episode on one of my prompts a few years ago on Athletic Tactics podcast.

Cheers for the mention! Although I’m not sure if that was a well timed question or poorly given the context 🤦‍♂️😂

Hi @acjimbo.bsky.social If you can find time for it I'd love to hear the Totally take on whether Xabi Alonso (maybe soon?) being on the market would shift the sands under Arne Slot's feet at all? Ticks the ex-player love-in box and surely there's no shame in failing to tame the Real circus lions?

Same colour reference. First coat. Dulux Eggshell on the left, Dulux bathroom paint on the right.

I get that emulsion and water based wouldn’t be identical, but are we really having it that these are both what you would walk out with from the same colour swatch?!

Lovely to see this year's Stirling Jury reach the correct decision. A new dawn!

@acjimbo.bsky.social Listening to the latest pod and thinking perhaps the next World Cup is the Canamerexico World Cup? Or not, obviously.

I wonder what would happen if we found a way to make the insanely low cost of supermarket booze higher to subsidise reducing the cost of going to the pub?

That would seem an eminently more sensible policy and with better health / domestic safety outcomes than simply 'more time for boozing'.

6 months ago 0 0 0 0

Quite ambivalent about the proposed extension of pub drinking hours in the UK, mostly because extending the time in which I'm allowed to do something I can no longer afford to do - which used to be a firmly embedded part of normal life - is kind of irrelevant to me.
