approaching code review with this assumption in mind allows you to hack away unnecessary abstractions and keep code more maintainable. always ask yourself, can I delete this code.
it's my belief and anecdotal observation that roughly half of the code written on a daily basis is strictly unnecessary, when evaluated on whether it solves the problem at hand.
I can only assume, based on this trickery, that when they hand out a free 6 month subscription to Claude Max 20x to an OSS developer, that they are counting that as revenue.
my favorite part of that clip is him claiming that guilt was made up in the 20th century, as if the US hasn't had fire-and-brimstone preachers for hundreds of years.
my bots are good and we need them to advance society, my competitor's bots are bad and should be banned.
PSA: The Amazon wishlist doxing threat is much greater and more immediate than folks might realize. Attack works like this:
Stalker who wants your address opens an Amazon seller account and lists themselves as a third party seller for any item on your public wishlist. Then, they order the item [β¦]
if you haven't seen AutoMobile by @kaeawc.bsky.social, it's worth checking out. it's mostly focused on the inner investigation + debugging loop, but last year he used an early version to automate a rough migration to Android 16. www.jasonpearson.dev/automobile-m...
because the devs aren't writing the code, they don't develop the muscle memory to catch mistakes that they ran into before. the end result is that you see the same mistakes being made by the same people every day, and no matter how many times you try to teach them to find themself, it doesn't stick.
the larger problem that i see is that where i used to be able to address a skill gap through pair programming or sending someone an article to read, now i have no recourse to address. the LLMs are the ones making the mistakes, and the devs that lack the knowledge to catch them.
have seen devs lacking basic knowledge all throughout my career. it's too soon to say whether the incidence has increased post LLMs. i will say that people that used to copy paste from stackoverflow, without attribution, are the same people vibe coding.
eliminating banks and private corporations from the act of riding the bus is 100% a socialist policy. every bus ride you take, you transact with a bank, a payment processor, and a private company that owns the card reader before that money reaches the government.
the mayor can't change the system, because he can't even access the tax revenue we produce without the NYS governor sending it our way. NYC mayorship has a long and complicated relationship with Albany. what he can and is doing is building broad support for socialist policy.
you just linked to an article that was cribbed from a Bloomberg article, which in turn was cribbed from an article written by the OP of the thread you are replying to. I suggest reading Ed's newsletter instead!
so do the job that we elected you to do, and shut down the government if they won't defund ICE. don't let us down like you did last time. don't let your legacy be one of cowardice, capitulation, and complicity with fascism.
As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.β¨β¨ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

not saying it can't get worse but this week really feels like a straightforward depiction of what worst-case 'post truth' information apocalypse ppl were warning of in the late 2010s

you're not doing anything either. last I checked, the democrats let the government reopen without securing an extension on the healthcare subsidies, and allowing it to reopen didn't even save all the jobs. my own brother never got his job back after the furlough ended, because the budget was cut.
It's only been 12 hours since the US invaded Venezuela and there's already AI generated propaganda videos going around Instagram in support of the invasion. US tech is so innovative.
I think this administration has vastly overestimated the rest of the world's willingness to put up with imperial oil war bullshit right now. I don't think this ends well. No war.
I think this might be my favorite newsletter that you've written this year. It really ties together everything that's come before it, and it kept me riveted from start to finish.

it's because they cheated their way through college and managed to become rich (because they are all nepo babies), which they incorrectly attribute to their "earned" degree.
billionaires are like cheaters in a game that allows cheating. we need valve anti cheat for billionaires smh
I showed them how to do a Google song search on their phones by hitting the microphone button and said if it couldn't identify the song that it was most likely AI. it's hard just off the video because the video might be AI but the music might be real or vice versa.
