Whenever I see arguments for compromising on design to try and get players to get what you're trying to achieve I can't help but think direct communication is a very underused tool despite not appearing to have any example of it falling apart completely.

Special mention to Twilight Epoch making time be a resource you cash in for lives that's already super good but you add in that same resouce being able to be found in exploration and you get the Sonic Adventure 2 scoring situation of having two necessary but opposed goals...

Outside of physical limitations there's no speed limit to making things or even playing board games, it's not too crazy to allow video games to push this too...
Now for how to execute that in action games I'll have to figure it out but I'll definitely push it as much as I can.

This is only something I've picked up on recently but wow games that make me play slower than I can because I need to wait out an enemy doing something not counterable sucks so much. Even in a slow fighting game there's nothing stopping you from playing aggressive with footsies!

A big part is making sure that every interaction has an impact and that impact doesn't get washed away by a life or timer refill. If you do the easy part really good that will actually help you during the part that's hard. Also being able to play faster if you're able too!!!

The abstract goal with my game is to create a single player action game adaptation of the elements I enjoy in fighting games and it's weird to say but out of all the games I've studied with this in mind, Tetris TGM2 has been the closest to it.

Fighting game motions... I think one of the aspects I really dislike about making execution matter too much is that you also start making certain types of controllers have a noticeable advantage which doesn't feel great. A double tap down on stick is not the same as when using SOCD.

There is a small text error in the installer script, on the confirm prompt "Use original 57.524Hz framerate:" returns true for 60hz but false if you chose 57.524 fps.
