"Tiercé en pal : au 1, parti ondé d’azur et d’or ; au 2, de cendré à sept billettes et deux demies rangées en pal et mouvantes du chef et de la pointe ; au 3, de sinople plain."
Between sea and forest... on the road again...

Day 29 : Gold
"D’or à l’ombre de soleil accompagnée de trois ombres de fleurs de lis."
Louis XIV, the Sun king, made extensive use of gold.
The ombre de sun reflects the king death and the ombre de fleur-de-lis the end of the french monarchy.
Only gold remains.

Day 30 : Garden
"D'azur à une pioche accostée d’un jar, d’un houx vrillé arraché, le tout d’argent."
In ref to my "pépé", a miner who used allotment garden.
In french "d'un jar d'un houx vrillé" is pronounced almost like "d'un jardin ouvrier". Canting arms.

A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is orange, with a spotted heraldic leopard in yellow walking across it, facing the viewer and baring its fangs and tongue. The helmet at the top of the crest is crowned with elaborate orange and yellow mantling that looks like flames, and topped with a more naturalistically-drawn fire. A charred ribbon reading "Noli Cum Igne Ludere" arcs behind the helmet.
#Heraldecember2025 27 | Leopard
The Latin says "Don't Play With Fire."

A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is green, with five smaller shields with small insignias on each. A thin road loops across the shield, threading them together. At the top of the crest, instead of a helmet there's a pilgrim's wide-brimmed hat, with shells set in the brim. Two pilgrim's staffs with shoulder bags hanging from the ends are crossed behind the hat.
#Heraldecember2025 28 | Road
I'm fascinated by medieval pilgrimage imagery, I find it charming how they would collect badges along the way. These aren't based on any actual holy sites, though.

A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The subtly shovel-shaped shield is blue with a shiny gold saltire and crossed shovels across the center. The helmet at the top of the crest is a kettle hat, with yellow and blue mantling with hand-shaped trim. Emerging from the top of the helmet is a pale hand with a tiny piece of gold pinched between its thumb and forefinger.
#Heraldecember2025 29 | Gold
Referencing the phrase "selling shovels in a gold rush," a rather morally dubious but certainly lucrative way to actually profit from one.

Day 26 : apart
"De sinople au pal déjoint d’argent accompagné en chef d’un écureuil assis et en pointe de trois noix, le tout d’or."
#heraldecember2025
Day 27 : Leopard
"Parti d’argent et de gueules, à un lion et une panthère héraldique affrontés de l’un en l’autre."
Leopard: from latin "leo" and "pardus" (panthera... heraldic panthera of course).

#Heraldecember 2025 - Day 26: Apart
Impaled, the second Or, a heart inverted Purpure.

A heraldic shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is broken up into quarters, which are each subdivided in half. On the top left and bottom right quarters are a pomelo on green next to a tiny mandarin orange on yellow. On the other quarters are a citron on sky blue over a bitter orange on white. The gold helmet at top of the crest has a domed top with chain mail hanging down, and yellow and green mantling that looks a bit like leaves. On top of the helm sits a lemon.
#Heraldecember2025 22 | Mandarin
I wound up down a rabbithole reading about citrus breeds, which reminds me of quartered crests for royal family trees. So this is the lemon's lineage: a pomelo and a mandarin orange make a bitter orange, which is then crossed with a citron.

A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is white with a red diagonal stripe, with four gold handbells, small to large, running along the stripe. The helmet at the top of the crest is gold and rather bell-shaped, and the red and white mantling has sleighbells along the strips of fabric. On top of the helmet sits a pair of white handbell gloves.
#Heraldecember2025 | Ring
Bellchoir handbells and gloves!
#heraldry #heraldecember
A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is divided in half diagonally, one side yellow and the other side blue. An old-fashioned scale is depicted in the center of the shield. Over the helmet at the top of the crest is yellow and blue mantling, and at the top of the helm sits a gold coin with sparkles around it.
#Heraldecember2025 | Talent
A talent is an ancient unit of weight (it varied culture to culture, though) that eventually became a monetary unit as well.
#heraldry #heraldecember
A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The shield is angular and simple, just a big white field with a comically tiny little man in the center. The helmet at the top of the crest is small and bucket-shaped, with a slit for eyes and holes for breathing, with no further mantling or symbols.
#Heraldecember2025 25 | Room
Hey buddy, gonna put anything else on there? No? Alright...
#heraldry #heraldecember
A heraldic crest, shield set at a tilt, rendered in ink and copic markers. The sield is quartered awkwardly, with the top and bottom pieces of a yellow lion on green at top left and bottom right, and the top and bottom pieces of a white rat on blue on the other quarters. Instead of a helmet, there is a janus-head at the top of the crest, both faces looking in opposite directions, one frowning and the other cheerful. The mantling over the lefthand face matches the lion's colors and the other's matches the rat's. Above the heads sits a signpost with arrows pointing in opposite directions.
#Heraldecember2025 26 | Apart
More ludicrous quartering! More!!
This one really laid bare why you shouldn't have colors on colors, I filled out the braid on the torse in dim lighting and could barely tell the difference between the blue and green!
