A Recipe for Meaningful Feedback: Review and Respond open.substack.com/pub/theeduca...
Thanks to @andrewpercivaled.bsky.social & @theeef.bsky.social who inspired this approach at our school and to @katejonesteach.bsky.social for continuing to make us think about effective feedback.
NEW ‘Power and Conflict - The Interpretations’ revision booklet. I always get students to consider 3 interpretations of each poem & ask them to consider which they agree with the most. Great springboard for debate/new ideas. I’ve collated these into a booklet here 👇🏻

'What is happening with writing?'
"Schools are trying to support struggling writers with ‘build-your-own’ approaches & interventions. Writing lacks good diagnostic assessment as well as interventions to address problems that emerge..."

Have just added the ‘Macbeth’ cycle to this revision folder. As always, use/chuck/change as you see fit! 👉🏻 www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/s9x6l...

A few years back I started a small distribution list for people interested in Teaching and Learning updates. It's now over 2000 people so I've moved it somewhere more substantial - if you're interested please sign up here! Retweets appreciated 🙏🙏

Updates to 2026 AQA English Language exam:
‘The changes will affect current Year 10 students taking exams in summer 2026 and onwards. Current Year 11 and those students resitting exams in November 2025 will not see any changes to the exam papers.’

There are some brilliant things people are doing and sharing on social media, but it can sometimes lead to feelings of inadequacy. Don't let it. If you're turning up at school doing the business in the classroom you're having the biggest impact. Remember this.
One of the problems I have with ’D.E.A.R’, as it is currently implemented in some schools.

Too much time is wasted on the what in education rather than the how.
Centralising your department's resources frees up time for teachers to focus on what truly matters!
This is why we centralise our resources and why you should too 👇

Superb advice from Adam Boxer, as usual! - ‘We need to tell people what that means, what it looks like, and how you actually do it.’
Is an MA in Educational Leadership worth doing? I have an MA in English Literature already. I want to do something, but also conscious of how much it will cost!
Please can you add me? Thanks!
Yes, exactly this. I’ve seen first hand how those who are not in promoted posts by a certain (early!) stage in their career, are assumed to be lacking somehow, and are consequently looked down upon by leaders who are often much less experienced or skilled.
Teaching is one of the few professions where it can feel like experience counts for nothing, when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Why is that?
I absolutely agree, and I don’t understand why this is happening.
Great classroom teachers are absolute gold dust. They are the lifeblood of schools. Why aren’t they celebrated as such? What is the incentive for great teachers to stay in the classroom? As we struggle to recruit, I really can’t understand why good teachers aren’t valued as the gems they are.
This apocalyptic poem by Byron is wonderful!
A poem that lingers in you.

It doesn’t work, in my experience. Around half the class will take part, which is lovely, but the rest will sit with an unopened book in front of them staring out of the window/doodling/pulling faces at each other. Not the way to inspire a love of reading - the opposite. Let’s read to them instead.

😂😂😅
I remember the bad old days of teachers performing for Ofsted to get a grade ‘1’, and the fallout that followed for those who did not. This fantastic thread examines the problems inherent in such a system.
Thanks! Very tempted 😊
Can I join in? 🤞😎
