How shocking it is that this is such a *radical* concept.

The media blackout of Jared Kushner’s historic, ongoing corruption scandal As Trump's son-in-law returns to Pakistan for more talks with Iran, major news outlets are largely ignoring an egregious conflict of interest.

What we already know about Jared Kushner is infinitely worse, from any possible angle, than anything we ever learned about Hunter Biden. And yet the media is completely ignoring it.

Open corruption is tolerated from one of the two parties. But only one.

A child shouldn't have to bury a parent lost to a domestic violence homicide. A parent shouldn't have to bury a child shot and killed by the other parent. I think we should all be able to agree on that. But today is another day in the United States, a country with more guns than people and not enough will to meaningfully address domestic violence. Or gun violence. And so today, on another day in the United States, eight children in Shreveport, Louisiana are dead — shot and killed by a man who was supposed to care for them and keep them safe. For at least some of those children, that man was their father.

safe. Treating domestic violence as random and unique to a particular family decreases urgency and absolves us of responsibility for addressing a larger societal issue. We live in a country where an average of 70 women are shot and killed by a current or former partner every single month, but people will still say there is no threat to the general public? I have a question. Since when are women not a part of the general public?

It's the guns. It's the domestic violence. It's an abusive president who has no interest in stopping the violence. And it's a culture that refuses to see lethal domestic violence as the crisis that it is.

From my latest piece on domestic violence, guns, and eight children who will never get to be adults. The mom who will never see her kids grow up. And a society that refuses to take domestic violence seriously enough to stop the killings from happening.

We can stop this. 1/

Stephen Miller + Tom Homan are listed as "invited witnesses" at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Tues about ICE/CBP.

So are people who were shot and tear-gassed by ICE/CBP.

If Miller/Homan actually show up, this will be... wow.

(Dem says "no confirmation yet" on their attendance).

That work would be hard. Really really hard. The fact that we lack the collective will to do so is a form of violent patriarchy unto itself.

It’s the guns. But it’s also the domestic violence.

And we have to figure this out. Our children are dying. 3/3 dot-connecting.ghost.io/its-the-guns...

I truly believe people see domestic violence as isolated incidents or a private matter not just because of misogyny. But also because that viewpoint lets us off the hook. After all, if we named DV as a pattern of patriarchal violence then we might have to actually do something about it. 2/

In the US 70 women are shot and killed by partners every month, and children are killed in DV incidents at an alarming rate, but people will still say there is no threat to the general public. Since when are women and children not a part of the general public?

In two days I am speaking at conference about the intersection of domestic violence, suicide, and easy access to guns.

I think I’ll need to take a few deep breaths before I start.

There is so much to hold right now.

Shaneiqua Elkins was trying to leave. Cerina Fairfax was trying to leave. Leaving a relationship shouldn’t be a death sentence for these women or for their children.

The violent selfishness of men who would deny their children their mother and deny a mother their children… I have no words.

For my first post on Ghost, I wrote about how guns and domestic violence came crashing together to give us today — another day in the US where people die because we don’t care to address the lethal combination of domestic violence and easy access to guns. 1/

We can change this narrative. We just need the will to do so. And to call out the culture that makes it so hard to change.

Call out every law enforcement official who says there’s no threat to the general public after a DV homicide. And every media outlet that refers to DV as a private issue. 2/

It should not be hard to clearly condemn men who kill their partners.

Just like it should not be hard to clearly condemn Nazis.

And these things are so interrelated.

Change the culture. We can do this. We have to. Our children are depending on us.

It’s too late for the kids that died today. But there are a lot more kids — and adults — we can save. We just have to do the work. 3/3

We can change this narrative.

Support domestic violence programs. Support gun violence prevention orgs, including those focusing on state policy and coalition building.

Speak up about family violence. Teach your kids that abuse is never okay, even when the president is the one doling it out. 2/

Louisiana has terrible gun laws in a country that does a terrible job of stopping gun violence and a terrible job taking domestic violence seriously and a terrible job of protecting its children.

What happened today in Shreveport was inevitable. But it doesn’t have to be like this. 1/

Eight children dead. Shot and killed in what authorities are describing as a domestic-related shooting. Shot and killed in a state that is notorious for its weak gun laws.

This is a policy choice. A policy failure, actually. And a moral failure too.

We should all be infuriated. I know I am.

8 children killed in Louisiana mass shooting The alleged gunman, who is related to some of the children, was killed after a vehicle chase, according to police.

This is heart shattering. How can we continue to let this happen???

There has never been a better time to take family violence seriously. There has never been a better time to address gun violence.

That time was a lot of yesterdays ago, but I will accept right NOW.

Our children are watching As people around the world were celebrating Easter, Donald Trump saw fit to mark one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar with an expletive ridden diatribe about Iran.

Most recently I wrote about Trump modeling the worst of humanity for our children with his violent and hateful rhetoric. How we have to call out his abuse if we are going to teach our children about respect and healthy relationships. 3/ dot-connecting.ghost.io/our-children...

Okay friends, I did the thing I should have done a while ago. I migrated from Substack to Ghost for my longer form writing. A bit about what you’ll see from me — I write about the violence that defines Trumpism and what actually keeps our communities safe.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
