Streetwear Brand Pillars Celebrates Chicago’s High School Culture with Themed Merchandise “It started off with just our schools, and everybody just started requesting it,” one co-founder of Pillars said.

New by me in @southsideweekly.bsky.social

Reppin’ your high school is so Chicago, no matter how many years it’s been since you attended.

“We have an HBCU culture without having HBCUs,” Dukes said of the celebration of high schools in Chicago.

One TRiiBE, divided? - Chicago Reader After two terminations and a public Instagram dispute, the last two eligible employees at Chicago’s celebrated Black-owned newsroom, The Triibe, head to a union vote on March 25.

One TRiiBE United said that they see the contracts other Chicago News Guild members have won and want those wins as well. “Wins like this lead to job security protections, progressive discipline, a grievance and arbitration procedure, and other rights codified in a legally binding agreement.”

“They got money for wars, but can’t feed the poor.” — Tupac said it years ago… and here we are.

The Pentagon is now asking for an additional $200 BILLION for this war.

We always find the money for war.

But when it comes to housing, healthcare, or feeding people? Suddenly it’s crickets.

The $9 billion gamble: South Chicago’s high-tech future vs. its industrial past • The TRiiBE Some want to kill the quantum project entirely; others want to be shielded from displacement and environmental harms.

NEW - “The game plan never changes,” says Stephanie Williams, a 7th Ward resident. “If it is detrimental, it’s immediately into the Black neighborhoods. If this thing was as wonderful as they say, it would have been part of the Chicago skyline.”

We’re One Triibe United, help us get recognized! The TRiiBE has grown so much since its founding in 2017, thanks to the Black and abolitionist press that paved the way for us. We are a trusted news source on both the local and national levels. This ...

I support @thetriibe.com journalists who are unionizing and want to be voluntarily recognized by their employer. For perspective, the legacy newspaper @chicagotribune.com voluntarily recognized us when we organized @ctguild.bsky.social

Stopped by Vice Chairperson Rita Mayfield’s office and she was not there. She is coming in later for some sessions. According to a staffer in her office, the meeting may have been canceled because it’s still early in session and more witnesses and work can still be done on various bills.

Traveled to Springfield to cover Bears stadium deal only for the meeting to be canceled. Haven’t been able to talk to Chairperson Curtis Tarver II; learned that he’s not even in Springfield. Not clear when the meeting got canceled.

Chicago’s hemp community urges Mayor Brandon Johnson to veto prohibition-style ordinance • The TRiiBE Stakeholders are convinced City Council’s move to limit hemp sales to licensed weed dispensaries protects Big Cannabis.

A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world
