This is no joke. Helium is only made slowly via radioactive decay and we use it far faster than it's produced in unusable quantities. It's critical for physics and astronomy tech as well. But kids love balloons, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know I've said this a trillion times but I have to say it periodically to keep from going insane:

The right ran a huge, well-funded, & ultimately successful campaign to completely take over political media & the infosphere more generally. This is by far the most important political development...

I feel that way about all the let’s-pick-these-characters-up-again-twenty-years-later reboots. I can’t think of any that have been good.

There have been some reported anecdotes of people giving AI data to analyze and it returns plausible results that it has just made up.

If a university student group had celebrated Charlie Kirk being killed, complete with a graphic made from an actual picture of the killing, the whole lot of them would have been expelled before the ink on the digital story was dry.

Heat map-style graphic showing monthly mean global surface air temperature anomalies from January 1850 to December 2025. There is a long-term warming trend evident in each month. Blue shading is shown for colder months, and red shading is shown for warmer months. Annotations are shown for the year of each warmest respective month. All of these records have occurred within the 2023 to 2025 period in this dataset. Anomalies here are calculated relative to a 1850-1900 baseline. Data is from NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI NOAAGlobalTemp 6.0.0.

I don't trust Trump/Miller/etc to respect those laws and I worry about the courts being too slow or SCOTUS being a bad actor. But four of the six states that swung to Trump in '24 have Dem governors who would presumably try to protect elections and Kemp and Lombardo might do the right thing, too.
