Like, Beast Games might be *especially* bad, but it's not different in kind from how these things are normally slapped together. It's mostly producers going "wouldn't it be be cool if..."

When I was moving out of games and briefly thought this might be the time to try TV it seemed like consulting on reality show challenges would be my path to representation / union / networking. Took meetings with some execs and it was wild how even the most BASIC game design stuff blew their minds.
I've been kinda soured on city builders of late, despite them being foundational to my early life as a game designer. This one has me excited though! :D
part of our thesis assignment was also writing our one-page manifesto of what the theater should be, and proposing a season that expresses it. that was fun!
the theatrical cinema and cinematic theater of Julie Taymor examined through _Titus_, _Frida_, _The Tempest_, and _Juan Dariรฉn_
He passed! Congrats to the newest Jesuit PhD, Dr. Perron, SJ!
Sitting in my living room watching the stream of my Jesuit housemate defending his doctoral dissertation on gender in theology, diving into feminist and trans theology in a way that is both faithful and pioneering. Proud of him doing this work!
I think of it less as a movie and more as a two-hour music video

Pasta sauce is also a great intro to cooking as it's very forgiving and you can just kind of add stuff until you think it tastes good. Nobody else likes it? That's ok! Try something different next time! I have given recipes to so many of the kids I work with who are on their own for the first time!
Begging them to stop naming companies after the bad guy things in Lord of the Rings
Palantir are about six months away from ordering their employees to leave audio logs scattered around their offices
Priestโs homily yesterday didnโt go super deep on the Trump v Leo stuff but I liked how he described it as โthis supposed โfeudโ at a global level between someone who has powerโฆ and a leader.โ
BC usually does a concert for MarMon to get the students on-campus and hopefully keep them occupied and not wanting to cross Commonwealth Ave, but I'm told this year's show is not much of a draw so my neighborhood is expected to be like Mardi Gras today ๐
on the off chance that this book ever comes out (I wouldn't bet on it), there is absolutely no way the last book even gets the whiff of existence
(FTR: Martin owes the audience nothing and deserves no ire, I just think it's time for people to start making peace with the books going unfinished)
Iโve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so youโre right. So what? Donโt ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again
Maya Angelou on the joys of being edited
โFeud with the Popeโ is BACK as a likely Wikipedia section heading after a 400-year gap.
I lived in Pittsburgh for a while just a few years after he died and nearly *everyone* had a story of running into him at some point and ALL of them had a moment of like "oh he was absolutely the real deal, 1000%" and it's just astonishing to me
yeah, that's about right -- her performance is really what carries the rest of it, and it's very strong, but yeah, the instruments are definitely a step down from that track
news to me!
Pitt finale has me listening to all of Jagged Little Pill today
a) this is still a heck of an album that I think holds up but I recognize this might just be my 90s-kid-ness shining strong
b) might be common knowledge but Dave Navarro and Flea played guitar and bass on "You Oughta Know"?!
(basically he was dubious at how overwhelmingly praised he is [a generally good instinct, esp. for a foreigner, but Rogers is the exception proving the rule] and thought I would be the one who could give him the "here's the bad things about this person" take, but of course there's nothing there)
my partner as house bulk shopper is a Jesuit from Poland who today, as we were driving out there, asked me in heavy accent: "What can you tell me about... this man... [checks phone notes]... Fred Rogers? Is he good as everyone says?"
MAN was I ready for THAT conversation.
yeah, I appreciate the narrative difficulty at having created a magic ship but not wanting to use it all the time! (same way there's always *some* reason the transporters won't work on this planet, etc...)
(this is a post for, like, six people)
when I keep wondering why the folks in Starfleet Academy don't use a spore-drive-equipped ship to solve their problems
