Mammals have hundreds of joints and muscles. Controlling them individually would be nearly impossible.
How does the nervous system organize such complexity into coherent actions?
Our new study explores this question through a natural behavior: jumping.
Congrats Fabricio!! looking forward to read it!
The Buck Institute for Research on Aging invites applications for a faculty position honoring the scientific legacy of Dr. Judith Campisi, a pioneer in the field of cellular senescence and its roles in aging and age-related disease. Job Link:

Your gut has a sex, and it matters! 🔥
In females, the ovary sends a relaxin hormone signal to enteric neurons, switching on gut enlargement and increased feeding after mating.
So excited my postdoc work is finally out as a preprint 🥳

🧠⚡️💊New @nature.com publication !
Mimicking opioid analgesia in cortical pain circuits
We built a brain-behavior framework to decode spontaneous chronic pain in mice—and to biologically mimic morphine with a synthetic opioid gene therapy

@pennmedicine.bsky.social
Cartoon transparent human with skeleton showing, red glowing points on joints to indicate pain
Do YOU live with joint pain?
Do YOU experience poor pain management?
Have you got 2-minutes to tell pain researchers about it?
If yes 👉 forms.gle/7NTwma2gnVN1...
We hope to gain insight into lived experience for those with joint pain & involve people in our #PainResearch 😃
🚨New paper from the NIH PRECISION Human Pain Network! We built a human DRG reference atlas: >500K cells from 126 donors to reveal 22 neuronal & 10 non-neuronal cell types. New insights into human sensory biology!

🧠🌟🐭 Excited to share some of my postdoc work on the evolution of dexterity!
We compared deer mice evolved in forest vs prairie habitats. We found that forest mice have:
(1) more corticospinal neurons (CSNs)
(2) better hand dexterity
(3) more dexterous climbing, which is linked to CSN number🧵
Coming to SD 🌴 for #SfN25 🧠?! Join @storiesofwin.bsky.social for our first in-person event 🤩. We’ll have a keynote, panels, & time for networking! Won’t be in SD? You can still register to receive a recording! Speaker/panelist announcements coming soon 👀

Labelled axons of calb1+ spinal projection neurons innervate multiple brain targets associated with cold sensation and thermoregulation. Darkfield images of different brain areas including the postal parabrachial and periaqueductal grey are shown with axons of ascending cells in yellow.

Does anyone have favorite colors for color blind friendly fluorescence images on a black background where the overlap combinations of 3 colors are important?
Magenta/cyan/yellow overlaps are difficult to distinguish (lots of white)
Thank you!
Big congrats to Alejandra @thepenkpanther.bsky.social on her new SI paper! Kicking off the Mendoza Lab’s work on sensory neuron-immune interactions. Glad to see our image highlighted on their website too!

Happy to share my first publication with @patrikernfors.bsky.social Lab - all about the DRG: Chromatin accessibility, single cell and spatial RNA sequencing - a great source for everyone interested in sensory neurons and non-neuronal cell of the DRG 😊
Led by @scienceyael.bsky.social & out today in @natneuro.nature.com: the brain's fluid-secreting organ — the choroid plexus — can reshape neural development through a powerful, little-known process. & it can be hijacked by serotonergic drugs like LSD. 🧠👇 A thread

Heatmap from the linked paper in figure 2, of hDRG and nerve proteomics showing the detection of TRP- and SCN- channels across samples, with higher levels of myelin-related proteins in the nerve and higher levels of TRPV1 and SCN10a in the ganglia
We set out to map a detailed proteome of the human DRG and nerve using DIA-MS as a reference to the field, and I think we've succeeded! Lots of proteins (& lots of ion channels), with the data is fully searchable. It's also available on @sparc.science
