I will update if I have an answer to that, but for the moment I'd still say sending feedback is better than nothing, though I understand the lack of faith that it will be listened to.

excuse my haste: please use feedback@rte.ie to outline your views, this is *not* for formal complaints
(I am unclear on the complaints process for non broadcast news, such as articles, on rte .ie)
i was unclear, and you are correct, at the moment it is only possible (afaik) to send "feedback" to rte for articles on rte .ie
i'd still advocate doing so, even if it doesn't carry as much weight as a complaint
40. Some participants at the expert meeting highlighted that practices of “conversion therapy” became a “moving target”, making it difficult to identify, monitor and punish perpetrators of such abuse. When facing restrictions or bans on practices specifically denominated “conversion therapy”, proponents have rebranded and reshaped their communications strategies. 41. With due attention to those specificities, the Independent Expert considers it useful to describe three main approaches that seem to guide practices of “conversion therapy”: psychotherapeutic, medical and faith-based. It should be noted, however, that academic literature disproportionately represents lived experiences from the global North, including Australia, and China and, despite the inclusion of non-scientific sources, information on religious practices remains scarce compared with those that are health-based. 1. Psychotherapy 42. The use of psychotherapy as a practice of “conversion therapy” appears to be based on the belief that sexual or gender diversity is a product of an abnormal upbringing or experience. Providers claim to rectify deviations and support the development of desire for members of the opposite sex, which is considered the desirable norm, by having subjects work through past experiences, like absent paternal or officious maternal figures.64 That category comprised the majority of evidence in the Independent Expert’s literature review, with numerous variations of psychotherapy classified under, inter alia, psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive and interpersonal therapies.
The report in question, to highlight two points in summary:
"conversion therapy" is renamed often to hide from scrutiny, it comes in many forms, including that of psychotherapy and other medical-ish forms
claiming that some "underlying" issue need to be treated IS a marker of conversion practices
I am quite legally comfortable with calling Dr. Cass the UK's chief medical advocate for the torture of trans people, especially children, given that "conversion therapy" is tantamount to torture (as per UN SOGI IE)
www.ohchr.org/en/stories/2...
cass advocates for GICE in her report, under the guise of "gender exploratory therapy".
a practice contrary to the linked MoU from 2024 and regardless of any specific law, a violation of human rights as per the CoE, EU, UN etc

modernising trans healthcare is urgent, the ongoing hse "review" is by the same people who runthe current dehumanising, non-functional system, and is hence DOA

Tomorrow Labour are putting down a motion in the dail on trans healthcare

idk why i even check the examiner at this point, overall quality is poor and factual errors which should not have survived an editor seemingly abound
i don't know the author and dislike being mean, perhaps they were rushed or badly edited, but Im put off reading them in future.

the glazing of Newsom is embarrassing, praising him for "trolling" trump (not his actions) while ignoring his harmful transphobia and cruelty towards the homeless, both v trumpian qualities.
its also strange to mention charlie kirk and not bring up his chummy podcast with Newsom
anyway...

more broadly, the writing in the article seems disjointed, as though a number of bullet points were connected together poorly.
the thesis seems muddled (and credits trumps intelligence a bit much) and i don't think the comparison of Nixon, Hamlet and Machiavelli quite coheres into anything.

..which ended with him being imprisoned for a time before retiring to write plays and histories.
his most well know works, the prince and discourses, only being published after his death.
(historians feel free to weigh in, be kind - im summarising)

moving on to Hogan's description of Machiavelli as a "master of subterfuge and obfuscation" and "sleight-of-hand trickster" - this somewhat clashes with my understanding of the man himself, who somewhat briefly served the republic of florence in its last decades...

so where did Hogan get this quote?
well, either this linked translation (i don't intend to spend time tracking down the source further)
www.intratext.com/IXT/ENG1264/...
or the wikipedia page for "madman theory", which Hogan also mentions in his article...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madman_...
the quote “a very wise thing to simulate madness”, sounds somewhat crude for Machiavelli, a usually elegant writer
it not quite a quote, but a (poor) translation of a chapter title from Discourses (book 3, ch2)
"That on occasion it is wise to feign folly"
which reads much better to me

screenshot of examiner article by Richard Hogan, alongside the text being referenced, discourses book 3 ch 2
incorrect description of Machiavelli + odd quote "Niccolò Machiavelli was the master of subterfuge and obfuscation. A sleight-of-hand trickster whose name became synonymous with political manoeuvring and expediency. He was a morally bankrupt prince who once uttered into the universe that sometimes it can be, “a very wise thing to simulate madness”. "
so was it Hogan or an editor (presumably from misunderstanding the title of his most famous work) who posthumously promoted Machiavelli from civil servant to prince?

The reason I'm concerned about Maria Steen being on the ballot isn't that she will win (she won't).
My worry is that if she is nominated, it will mean a month of national airtime for a hate campaign against vulnerable groups, carried by a media too scared of being sued to call it what it is
(nothing particularly concerning, just curious about these businesses)
while Tully Friedman (no longer at H&F) was involved with the conservative "American Enterprise Institute", H&F seems to split political donations evenly these days

Nexi's ownership is split between various groups, "H&F" is Hellman & Friedman

while you can opt-out at any time, the period before my bank will automatically share data with zippay is the 28th of October, a mere 10 days from now.
i may opt-in at some point but I automatically dislike an opt-out service that involves transfer of my data to a 3rd party.
details (and opt-out info) is here for the participating banks

www.ptsb.ie/help-and-sup...

my banks chat support, only available via their app, have directed me to call a number for more info.
not a great sign to announce an upcoming feature but not have support staff ready to answer questions via the way most people will contact them
I'm not certain it being tied to phone contacts is the best idea either, i somewhat expect to hear of scams along the lines of "hi mam i lost my phone this is a new number + can you send me money"
we will see how it is implemented, of course, id expect/hope such things have been considered
The "obvious" use of zippay appears to be things like settling up after a friend pays for a meal, so far it doesn't seem to be intended for commercial transactions.
that seems quite limited
Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI), the voice of banking and payments in Ireland, commented on the announcement through the words of Brian Hayes, Chief Executive BPFI: “We are delighted to join AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB in announcing the introduction of Zippay to the Irish market next year. Developed in response to ustomer feedback and demand, this will provide a quick and easy way to send and receive money or split bills with friends, family and contacts who are also Zippay users. It will be delivered through customers’ existing mobile banking apps and therefore comes with all the same high levels of security, protection, and digital safety and avoids the need for topping up a digital wallet or downloading a separate app”. Describing how the app will work, Mr Hayes continued: “Eligible customers will automatically be enrolled to Zippay, which will appear in their personal banking app once the service is launched next year. It will use mobile numbers saved in the customer’s contact list to identify who else uses Zippay. There will be no need to set up a new payee or know their IBAN, BIC or account numbers, the money will transfer between accounts seamlessly. The service will allow customers to send up to €1,000 per day as well as request up to €500 per transaction. It will be simple, speedy and secure”.
.. giving a general overview.
Its odd to see this being rolled out now, I wonder how it relates to the "digital euro" that the EU commission has been on about - right now, with the given description, it seems to be a feature-incomplete revolut-ish app
www.nexigroup.com/en/media-rel...
In case anyone was wondering about this "zippay" AIB, PTSB and BoI are auto-enrolling us in in 2026
- Its a direct way to pay people in your contacts from one of these three banks, its being run by NEXI who put out a recent press release..

I intend to go through them all and check, likely will take up a whole day this week :/
i've formed no opinion on the quality of this publication, only that it was slightly difficult to find,
I am peturbed, however, that linking to the relevant publications has simply not been done
