Shipworms aren’t worms. They’re bivalves that eat wood with the help of symbiotic bacteria turning wooden shipwrecks into functioning ecosystems. #MolluscMonday Fantastic image from seahistory.org/sea-history-...

It’s a grey thing, with creamy patches around its eyes and large mascara-like smears running from the eyes outwards. Long arms clinging to a narrow tree branch. General Chewbacca vibe.

It’s Trinity Open Day and one of the most common questions I get asked is ‘what kind of jobs do zoologists do?’ - so we asked our alumni… youtu.be/lJr4AsZ_rLc?...

Saying that it's "too hard" to get on the Irish president ballot when an independent woman got the entire Irish left to back her, got the biggest vote ever and beat two historically dominant parties is not just wrong - it is breathtakingly offensive and outrageously dishonest.

The couple who bought a Wicklow golf course and turned it into a native woodland The former Glen of the Downs Golf Course greens are now covered in 80,000 native trees, planted by Anke and John Moran

This went completely under my radar. A rewilded Glen of the Downs Golf Course that creates an unexpected corridor between the GOTDs, Kindlestown Wood and the Little Sugar Loaf 🤯

The Irish media bear significant responsibility for Ireland's lack of progress.

The example below illustrates this clearly. Their deference to climate-denying billionaires like Michael O'Leary is so deeply ingrained that it's often overlooked — but it continues to undermine real progress.

Tourist discovers ‘extinct’ jellyfish while rock-pooling in Outer Hebrides Thistle-shaped Depastrum cyathiforme was last seen in France in 1976, but has now been found on South Uist

"Tourist discovers ‘extinct’ jellyfish while rock-pooling in Outer Hebrides"

this is why #InverteFest encourages you to smell the flowers and ogle the critters. cameras have gotten exponentially better over the years and EVERYONE has a high chance of making scientific discoveries in normal places.

This review clearly shows that macroalgal decomposition rates vary significantly between experimental approaches and are severely underestimated when a refractory pool is not considered, impacting scaled-up estimates of macroalgal carbon export to the deep ocean 🌊🌱

It absolutely makes sense that men are using AI more and seeing more job benefits, because confidently spouting nonsense in the shape of information (what LLMs are programmed to do) has always been much more of a pathway for career advancement for men than for others.
