When my grandfather turned 18 in the early '30s, he couldn't vote for president. When my father turned 18 in the late '50s he couldn't vote for president. Five generations of my family in DC have never had congressional representation.
We are also ready.

finally started scrolling through the files...and very quickly found this, from my senior year at IU Bloomington archive.org/details/ajc0.... I never saw AG outside of bloomington.
Well, if the orange one can destroy everything in under a 100 days, shouldn’t Mamdani be able to fix everything that quickly? I mean, duh.
A much needed timeline cleanse for us all. Pass it on
view of the intersection of 14th and R NW, looking north from the SW corner. The photo shows a bike lane which has curved toward the sidewalk around a bus island — to which a Metrobus is pulling up. Just below the bus island a newly demarcated and painted beige area containing 3 black and white speed cushions intended to stop turning cars from cutting the corner.
While this lousy administration tries to plow over our infrastructure (51st.news/trump-admini...), DC out here doing the right thing with more improvements, like the new speed cushions and paint in the lane at 14th and R I saw getting installed yesterday.

And Ferrick had been around long enough -- three albums in! -- that plenty of the folks in the crowd had clearly come for her set (I, of course, was there for both!) This was in '97.

Dunno if this guy’s going old school for his pomodoro timer, or what, but I’d be less surprised seeing this in Brooklyn, as opposed to walking down a DC sidewalk!

the only time I saw her was at the old Birchmere, with Melissa Ferrick opening. And honestly, my main memory from that show was all the baby dykes in the audience going nuts when Ferrick covered "Jesse's Girl", which TBF was pretty great.
Thank goodness it’s TACO Tuesday!
Guess they were serious about Logan Circle being closed, as a fence goes up around the perimeter. cc: @popville.bsky.social
That reminds me that I haven’t heard the new one yet. Quite liked the last album.
A NY Times headline reading, "Federal Judge Approves Trump Effort to Extract List of Jews From Penn The decision to allow the government to collect the names and phone numbers of Jewish people on campus could allow the government to pursue similar tactics elsewhere."
Sure, yeah, this totally makes me feel safe. Why does everything this administration does to "combat anti-semitism" feel so much like anti-semitism? Could it be all the xian nationalists? Yeah, probably. (www.nytimes.com/2026/03/31/u...)
When will we get the explosive Matt Taibbi exposé?
I’m just surprised it’s not a Swedish noir cop drama.
just yesterday I was thinking it was about time for him to wake up.
A trading card with a photo of Hari, the blind Bravermountain alaskan husky, with a purple surround and green lines with yellow stars. At the top it reads "Dogs on the Trail" and at the bottom is Hari's name.
today I came across this trading card I'd completely forgotten about. I always loved @blairbraverman.bsky.social's stories about Haricot Vert, and was quite saddened to hear about his recent passing. Run free with the rest of the Beans, Hari, and may your memory be for a blessing.

Please soothe your soul with this footage of an enraged muppet being treated at the wild muppet center.
As the teams continue to arrive in Nome, the #Igivearod also continues until the red lantern arrives. So far, nearly $18,000 has been raised for Alaskan schools and other worthy charities. Check out the spreadsheet and remember, the matchy match is ongoing! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
It's hard to think about retiring from racing, because mushing is, and will always be, a huge part of my life. So I took a journey with my older dogs, who have retired themselves. They've taught me so much over the years; now, they're teaching me to live with change.

thanks, bler. that was extraordinary. I was only part way through when my husband asked me what was wrong; he'd left the house by the time I was sobbing at my desk.
thanks! I just added another $54 donation of my own to a Donors Choose campaign...the tracker has been updated.
An AppleWatch notification that reads: 3500 AlI Rings Closed You closed all your rings for the 3,500th time. Next level!
Not displeased with myself
This is hilarious.
Also, completely enraging.
@musicologyduck.bsky.social can’t speak to the current Air Force but my piano teacher circa 1980 was also the pianist in the Airmen of Note. I was a terrible student, but I guess he’s still teaching. music.gmu.edu/profiles/wbe...
The current temp of 81F in D.C. is closer to freezing than the current temp of -38F is in Fairbanks - by over 20F.
Now that the Iditarod is properly underway, it was time to start making my #Igivearod donations...for the seventh(!!) year. That just seems crazy!

I read this post to my husband, a retired Assistant GC at a federal agency, and he burst out laughing. Well done, Tay.
Omg. I took a photo of that very sign yesterday morning thinking to send it to you. Cracked me up.
