That's it for now, I'll add more as I think of them

Blade Runner is a good one for overall feel (Dystopian chic with a sassy attitude and dry narration)

The part where Deckard speaks to the computer is definitely a thing...

Of course, we must not forget 2001: A Space Odyssey, and 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

Those movies were 100% fiction the day they were released.

We're down to maybe 50%. HAL exists, for all intents and purposes. Be on the lookout for monoliths?

A not - so - great but illuminating movie would be Jupiter Ascending. Don't watch for the acting. Or the plot, really.

Watch for the view into intergalactic oligarchy. That's the real lede here.

If you want a *great* sci-fi action thriller about what is likely Coming to America, read Fall, Or Dodge in Hell by Neal Stephenson. The first half is largely set in "Ameristan." Nuff said.

There's a lot of great (and not so great) media out there that describes the current situation, globally and in the US. Here's a selection 🧵

I realize I’m just shouting into the wind here, but: please, please, please stop posting screenshots without links, or summarizing breaking news events without links. There’s a serious problem with unsourced assertions all over the world right now, don’t be part of the problem.

Tron was probably the single most formative movie of my childhood

I just finished the third book of the Mistborn series.

I've been reading science fiction and fantasy for over forty years. It is my favorite, by far.

I hope someday, someone realizes what a treasure it is, and gives it a chance to become the epic live-action series (not movie) it deserves to be.

Reading Mistborn for the first time.

Who else thinks Paul Bettany would be good for Sazed?

The closest I've heard is that some are flying very low, making it easy to see that they're large, but I haven't personally seen any videos that definitively confirm any sightings

The profit margin on code that doesn't work will drive quickly towards zero, and the difference between useless AI-generated code and functional code is an experienced human software engineer

I'm afraid a lot of destruction will happen in the space between those two things

PS- note the title of the OP: "Venture Capitalist"

NOT

"Credentialed AI researcher"

This breathless take is like saying ditches started digging themselves after the invention of the shovel.

Yes, AI will be another tool in the toolbox for experienced software engineers. The notion that the "cost will be driven to zero" is nonsense.

The Honor Of Kings episode of Secret Level is another example of turning a simple MOBA into an epic philosophical masterpiece

I'm not sure we could handle a game as good as the fiction being created from them

My template for being a decent human is the end of the movie Scrooged.

Face the parts of yourself you don't much like. Make friends with them. Thank them for their service, then let them go.

It occurs to me that this timeline is so much more aligned to a William Gibson novel than I could have imagined twenty five years ago
