Everyone show some goddamn respect

+ many thanks to @coleurbanist.bsky.social for help finding an updated Kane County shapefile!
Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim convincingly won Lake County. This race has already seen a good few maps made, so I will defer to @chiurbanist.bsky.social , whose majority/plurality method of legends I have stolen (6/6):

Croke has represented HD-12 since 2021, when she beat appointed incumbent Yoni Pizer. Though district lines have changed, you can see Croke's strength in the southern portion of the district then as now (5/6):
bsky.app/profile/uncr...
State Rep. Margaret Croke won her house district convincingly en route to a statewide victory. She will likely be succeeded by Democrat Paul Kendrick. (4/6)
State Sen. Karina Villa, who did not have to give up her seat, convincingly won the 25th state Senate District, which she has represented since 2021. She previously represented the northern half (HD-49) in the state House. (3/6)
Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (@skifowit.bsky.social)won 49% of the vote in the 84th House District, which she has represented since 2013. She will likely be succeeded by Democrat Saba Haider next year. (2/6)
In the recent primary for state Comptroller, all four Democratic candidates won their current constituencies - there really is no place like home.
(1/6)
Villa over Croke by 27 votes
/tw boomer joke
jd vance's all about couches coming soon
note: this office is elected to a district roughly concomitant with Cook County, these are just results from Chicago.
While many progressive North Siders went with Bury over Kirkwood, Kirkwood's strength on the South Side & 'burbs helped her to renomination.
The top vote-getter, Commissioner Precious Brady-Davis, is Illinois' highest-ranked trans elected official (happy TDOV!)
Tricky one to map - this year's Democratic primary for MWRD Commissioner, where every voter gets three votes.
The three incumbent commissioners, endorsed by the county party, were renominated, though environmental lawyer Sarah Bury almost grabbed the third spot.
Pretty compelling essay from Daniel Biss in The Nation, in which he reiterates his support for
-The Block The Bombs Act (strongest arms embargo on Israel legislation ever unveiled in Congress).
-Unilateral recognition of the State of Palestine.
-Naming and shaming AIPAC intervention in elections.
there's a world in which a Lakeview-based candidate could make it a real race, but agree the fundamentals are probably in her favor
illinois state comptrollers race by school board district map & chart
In the state Comptroller's race, state Sen. Karina Villa (won the city) & state rep. Margaret Croke (won the state) split the districts 10-10.
Districts 4b and 6a (Croke/Kaegi) and 8a (Villa/Hynes) will be especially interesting to watch come November.
cook county assessors race by school board district map & chart
More maps! Much to the future chagrin of our mailboxes, school board elections are starting up. Here's how some of the more competitive races shaped up by school board district:
in a close Assessor's race, Kaegi won 11/20 districts, in line with his 51.3% citywide. (1/2)
anyway here's a map of the Libertarian primary
In W50-P24, the red precinct in which Croke performed best, the top three candidates were her, Raja, and Brendan Reilly -- then Alexi.
Another map -- here's the top vote getters in the 50th Ward by precinct.
Despite being in a 15-way race, Laura Fine received the most votes of /any/ Democratic candidate in a handful of precincts in Orthodox neighborhoods.
To my surprise, state Rep. Margaret Croke makes an appearance--
at the behest of @coleurbanist.bsky.social, dropping some of my post-election maps over here (I'm a twitter-poster by trade). Hope y'all enjoy:
I have no proof. But I wonder if it was St. Patrick's Day weekend?
did Nick win HD-11?
I am extremely grateful for the more than 1,400 Chicagoans who put their faith in me, and the countless more who told me I was their second or third choice 😅
Thousands of doors knocked, postcards sent, and almost 500 individual donors - not so bad for nobody that nobody sent 😉
Ridge Knapp & Demi Palecek at November candidate forum
I called @demiforillinois.bsky.social to congratulate her on winning the Democratic primary here in the ☘️lucky☘️ 13th & to wish her my best in the general election.
I love my neighborhood & the neighborhoods of this district, and I look forward to working with her in the future.
The ugliness being directed at Bushra Amiwala is disgusting. She was the first Gen Z candidate to become an elected official in the US, and the youngest Muslim elected official at the time. She’s been deeply involved in politics here since she was a teen.
probably both :) we love a grassroots campaign (hi nice to meet you)
As a bonus: bsky.app/profile/blak...
I've turned to GIG over the last few elections, and while I understand the prefer a different candidate in my race, the accusation that I've largely stopped campaigning is patently false.
I attempted to reach out to have this addressed, and never heard back. (2/2)
Happy election night eve, Illinois! Soon this will all be behind us - after a very hectic next 24 hours.
As many voters head to the polls tomorrow, I wanted to take a moment to address a major inaccuracy in a popular voter guide: Girl, I Guess (1/2)
