Heading to Kenya in July.
The cheapest flights are on Qatar and fly through Doha.

I learned a new word today...trekademic. As in people who study academically Star Trek.
I find watching videos of folks working on overgrown yards and towing out stuck vehicles from the backcountry to be oddly addictive.
Victor Orbán is a horrible person, but at least he had the decency to immediately concede defeat.
Donald Trump, an even worse person, *still* hasn’t conceded defeat—SIX YEARS LATER!
Brief Trump summary of the past weeks:
- “Open the strait”
- “Help us open the strait”
- “We don’t need the strait open”
- “Open the f’king strait or I destroy you all”
- “We block the strait”

An mRNA treatment for PANCREATIC CANCER was in trials, among many other uses. Choosing to end this research is choosing to sentence millions to an early, painful death

Last week’s monthly wildland fire outlook shows that the US wildfire season is already off to an above-normal start. UCS’s Rachel Cleetus breaks down the risks and impacts of climate change-driven heat across the country, pointing to the lack of policy response from the Trump administration.
New in PN: Trump's Total War Budget
"It points the way clearly toward a distinctively Republican vision of America — one where there's endless money for bombs while the populace is transformed into an impoverished mass of hunger and disease, emitting hoarse pleas for castoffs from oligarchs."
So, thing that is apparently better understood inside academia than outside of it:
International students pay sticker price. Most domestic students do not. International students are subsidizing the education costs for domestic students, as per student governmental funding drops.
Samuel L. Jackson said it plain: show up and vote.
This runoff is happening because too many voices stayed home last time. Let’s fix that.

A graph titled “the public health success of the measles vaccine” that shows the number of measles cases in the United States plummeting after the vaccine was introduced in 1963
I showed this graph in class yesterday on how measles cases in the United States plummeted dramatically after the vaccine was licensed in 1963. It’s not subtle and I could not resist observing: “This stunning design in measles cases was not thanks to vitamin A. It was not due to beef tallow.”
Spending some time at the Jeep dealer in Cedar City UT getting a new alternator.
It failed as I was driving past Cove Fort late last night.
Made it to Cedar and spent the night waiting for the service department to open.

A huge win! The Senate voted unanimously early this morning to fund the Department of Homeland Security but without funding for ICE or Border Patrol deportation and enforcement operations.
You’d think expensive oil would make our government focus on solar and wind energy, you would of course be wrong
Please stop posting these ICE agents without their parents' consent.
NEWS: Republican Leader John Thune told Trump that Senate Republicans would finally join Senate Democrats to support funding all of DHS except ICE.
Donald Trump said no.
This shutdown is on him alone.
I'm confused how an American president can reduce sanctions on two countries currently killing American citizens and others and remain in office.
Perhaps 'treason' means something different in the US?
