To the guy on the train this evening bragging about his job as head of the office of the CRO at an investment bank - and the shit he has seen coming across the desk of his new boss ... really not a very good idea.

Ouch. I once ended up in the wrong city during a stag do but that’s perhaps more understandable.

There has been a surge in comments on this planning application since yesterday - now over 300, up from around 240. On my count, 56 of the new comments are in support... planningsearch.rbkc.gov.uk/publisher/mv...

In France, if you want to build a home above a certain size, you’re legally required to use a licensed architect.

Can you guess what that size is

I would understand it more if it were a new company or entirely new application. My company is changing its legal entity and they can see 12 years of VAT and PAYE payments under the old company. Nothing else is changing. But no, up to 8 weeks (21 days and counting).

General irriation and cognitive load complaint #785: why does it take HMRC up to eight weeks to register a company for VAT and up to four weeks to register for PAYE? It's 2026, they know who I am, they know my company, they know who my staff are, so why? Is this why we can't have nice things?

And will BA allocate two seats next to each other for me and my son, or do we have to pay extra to select them? If the latter, why - when booking tickets with minors - is this not flagged up or explained on your website? @british-airways.bsky.social

General irriation and cognitive load complaint #784: why @british-airways.bsky.social when booking a flight with children do you give the option of adding checked luggage for each adult and then automatically add it for both children as well? Ended up with two separate bookings for 1 adult & 1 child

A reminder that including the ultimate ownership of companies when writing about them would be illuminating: 'Pizza Express, the Jersey-based restaurant chain'...'Pret a Manger, the Luxembourg-based sandwich chain) etc

Pope Leo’s attitude to the Iran war is shocking Leo XIV appears to ignore the murderous history of the Tehran regime in his call for peace

Surely the Pope will have to reconsider now that he has lost Melanie Phillips

I am particularly pleased that this guy will not longer be in office: Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, former ambassador to the UK, is a particularly nasty piece of work who once told me - after I had mentioned that my wife is Muslim - that Muslims were going to breed Europeans into extinction...

I lived in Hungary way back in 1991 and was introduced to a guy called Viktor at a party in Budapest. He was head of a youthful, liberal, optimistic party run mainly by students and I was told he was the 'future of Hungary'. As David Cameron once said of Tony Blair: 'he was the future once...'

‼️🇭🇺🇪🇺 Here is a potted timeline thread marking some of the key milestones that built Prime Minister Viktor Orban's illiberal democracy in Hungary over his 16 years in power. His tenure looks likely to end tomorrow. The table stakes for Hungary and Europe could not be higher 1/

Me too. About 20 years ago my mother came to stay with me in London for the weekend and I asked her if there was anywhere in particular she wanted to go.
‘Canary Wharf’
‘Why?’
‘We don’t have a lot of skyscrapers in Dorset’
She loved it.
