Proud Pink Sky — Redfern Jon Barrett About Redfern Jon Barrett's novel 'Proud Pink Sky' – an ambitopia set in the world's first gay state

It looks like Stonewall UK has abandoned trans folk – but gay people in power selling out their BTQ+ cousins isn't new.

I wrote a novel about it! If you haven't read it yet, PROUD PINK SKY explores trans lives in the world's first gay state.

Check it out! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

It really is, I actively look forward to seeing what people are getting up to here!

So much of my Bluesky feed is authors advertising their books, artists showcasing their work, and LGBTQ+ people showing off their best selves. Forget the hate, the ragebait, and the misinformation. This is what social media is really for. 💞

I can't wait to see the video! 💞

Lavender is one of my best-loved colours – and on my recent trip to England I was fortunate enough to not only find lavender eyeshadow, but a lavender pullover. Both of which go with my lavender ebook reader.

There’s no such thing as too much coordination when it comes to lavender!

Thank you! And for the lavender emoji, I looked for one and couldn’t find it!

Oh absolutely, perhaps I didn’t word it correctly — they’re human impulses, but not ones that are as sympathetic. The fascists I’ve known wouldn’t make for interesting villains because of it. Entitlement, a need to feel above others, malice because you feel you deserved more than your share…

Very disappointed to see that after so much needless hostility toward trans people, the BBC appears to be moving on to LGBTQ+ refugees.

It is not the duty of a state broadcaster to attack the most vulnerable people in society.

For shame.

Whenever I write antagonists I'll always do my best to empathise with them. Their goals have to make some kind of sense, even if it's through trauma. Real-life fascists? Not so much...

A picture of Redfern and Lindsey at dinner, sitting in front of a pink tree. Lindsey is wearing a fantastic burnt orange waistcoat, Redfern a lilac pullover that matches their eyeshadow.

Had an absolutely wonderful time in Birmingham with @lindseytheartist.bsky.social – exploring bookstores, toy shops, and porridge cafes!

Now on the way back to Berlin…

I've said it before, but "masculinity" has been "in crisis" for so long it's probably time to just admit that it's failed as a concept.

You know you’ve truly made it as an author when you finally become an adjective:

“Dickensian” = impoverished
“Orwellian” = authoritarian
“Kafkaesque” = bureaucratic
“Machiavellian” = manipulative

So keep at it, writers! And one day your name could be known for something just as glamorous! 📚🌈

I love writing reviews, and I'm very fortunate to currently write then for both Strange Horizons and Reckoning. I can't at all understand why someone would fake it! It shows such disrespect for the authors' work too...

There's been another AI scandal at a major publication: a book reviewer for the New York Times used an LLM to write his review.

But just... why? There are so many people who'd love to write for these big outlets, yet actual writers there don't want to do the work?

It screams unearned privilege.

My novel PROUD PINK SKY is set in the world's first gay nation and features trans and non-binary characters!
