It'll usually be because you've accidentally exited the (often fragile) inner plastic lining- the tip of the straw will be sitting between the plastic and the foil instead of inside the plastic 'bladder' proper.

Timeline cleanse: I just got on a bus. An elderly woman was trying to pay but her card didn’t work. She was standing flustered by the driver. A boy, maybe 12 or 13 years old, who was queuing to get on said to the bus driver, “sir can I pay for her?” and then went ahead and paid for her

I saw a boy give up his seat for an elderly lady in Glasgow, pick up her shopping, put it in the luggage rack, stay an extra stop to help her off with it at hers.

Kids nowadays. They're so... NICE!

One of our elderly neighbours now lives alone - her husband's been in residential care since last year.

Since then, my 11yo pops round at least once a week to spend time with her and make sure she's ok (she's a bit unsteady on her feet.)

The kids are alright 🙂.

The colonisation vibes are strong in that one 😱

On Sunday, I actually heard someone (family by marriage) say "They should come in the *right* way, like our ancestors did."
Oh, you mean steal the land from the people already living there?

I get what you mean by 'woman centred'. I can't describe it either, but it's definitely there. ❤️

A print of a painting (artist details in next photo). An aboriginal artist using a vibrant colour palette and imagery of weaves, tracks and wings. I am sorry i don’t know how to describe it, maybe someone more expert can help me out?

The artist
Karina Jeffrey is a contemporary Aboriginal
artist and a proud Woolwonga, Uwanwul
woman from Darwin. Karina has been
creating art since she was young and
continues to tell her stories through painting.
Karina weaves together tradition and
contemporary expression, infusing her
love of bright colours into traditional styles,
and celebrating her Aboriginal heritage by
embedding cultural richness into her works.

Oh i should have taken a photo of this painting today which I saw irl. Lucky to have to wait for apt for 15 minutes so i gazed and gazed. Felt so woman centered to my untrained eye

I have no idea why we imported US butter when we produce so much of the higher quality butter here. It's like the proverbial coals to Newcastle!

On first glance there are two large circular motifs surrounded by wavy lines in shades of grey, red, orange and yellow. On closer look the circles and lines are repeated at ever smaller scales within and across the two large motifs.

One of the brilliant things about working at Bond University is being surrounded by astounding Aboriginal art. Go on, load up the higher res and zoom up on this one. It's repeating patterns at different scales, like a fractal. 😍

If we support the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN, 1948) then the growth of something like the NDIS for people with disabilities is as essential as a public healthcare system, or education for all children.

It sounds like Mr Butler doesn't support universal human rights. 🤔

A realist evaluation of community-engaged learning for health professions students in rural Japan: explaining learning processes associated with cultural humility and professional reorientation - Adva... Community-engaged learning (CEL) has gained attention in health professions education, yet there remains limited explanatory understanding of how it generates learning processes in East Asian contexts...

'...learning was generated when contextual conditions disrupted certainty, loosened institutional scripts, and positioned [healthcare] students as non-experts in community settings'.

Fantastic realist evaluation from Haruta et al. about cultural humility to develop professional identity.

The world is getting happier. Western teenagers are not. In many countries, teenagers are happier than previous generations. But in Australia and much of Western Europe, the opposite is true.

The world is getting happier. Western teenagers are not. Social media isn’t the root cause. Light use is fine. Heavy use hurts, but only as an amplifier. The real issue is a loss of real-world belonging. Feeling part of a school or community matters far more than screen time. buff.ly/TNpG5wA

Also, the readers asking why I didn't say something-
1. Store security are statistically far more likely to be hostile to me than the white women, in the event of a confrontation
2. I had a meeting to chair shortly afterwards, and I just didn't want to waste my time (or brain cells)

This incident happened where I live (Australia). But I'm seeing a huge response from US readers that definitely isn't the isolationist, nationalist, racist posturing of their leaders. Maybe there's hope for their next election after all. 🤞🙏

I had a similar experience overhearing two women talk about trans kids, saying something along the lines of “and so they think they’re confused…I just don’t get it.” And I still don’t know if I was wrong not to ask them, “what if I told you you’re a man, and denied the validity of your objection?”

I was in a restaurant where four people were talking about the homeless.

When they began pointing, chortling & yukking it up about the freezing weather & their (the homeless folks) lack of preparation for that, I paid my bill, walked out & gave the homeless person my coat.
Mean people suck.

I find volunteer plants are often healthier than storebought plants. If I need a quick crop, I empty some of my compost bin on a spare bed, and weed around the volunteers that invariably pop up 🤣

They certainly are not all of us. What I KNOW is we are all migrants apart from First Nations people. Some of us forced, some of us asked and some came of their own accord. Everything is better having lots of different cultures in the one place. I live in a very diverse area and could not be happier

Mine have all been eaten by the local wildlife before they reached maturity. Next season I think I'll have to train them vertically like yours Asha!

Here in the UK, the appeasement of the extremists and populists has allowed people to get away with conduct that I thought we'd stamped out in the late 1990s.

The current popular disguise for their blatant racism is "legitimate concerns". No, you don't have legitimate concerns, you're a racist...

Singapore was our second home for 10 years. The Public Housing HDB Estates there are very well designed - green, spacious, with many different facilities like Clinics, Hawker Food Centres & Market in each estate

Understand - to be clear I’m pro- density, but with responsible design, abundant amenity, environmental leadership…. All allied with a diverse affordable housing initiatives.
You can do it all - about time a rich country like Australia tried harder

If we insisted that no one should be unhoused and no one should lack the healthcare they need, I am certain the government might find the money (*cough* mining/gas/resources income) to afford what we need in the country as opposed to what the exploiters need.

Women undergoing #BreastCancer surgery can be trusted to choose whether they need opioids on discharge! (ie, normal practice outside US).
