Precariously employed contract faculty teach almost 50% of university courses in Ontario with little job security or institutional support. OCUFA is holding a Social Media Day of Action to call for fair, stable working conditions for contract faculty.

Fifteen thousand nurses across 10 campuses in New York City’s three biggest hospital systems are on an open-ended strike.
Nurses say employers are trying to undermine safe-staffing protections and demanding concessions on nurses’ own health care benefits.
At a time when official statistics are under political pressure elsewhere, Canada has an opportunity & a responsibility to strengthen its own commitment to open, reliable labour relations data. Adam King & I explain why:

Doug Ford's government uses a lot of "D" words to justify their actions. But they're undermining the most important “D” word of them all - democracy. #onpoli #ontpoli

Canada needs better labour relations data. Read the CAWLS/ACETS open letter on the need to restore public access to data tracking work stoppages — and for stronger collection of labour relations statistics.

Ford cuts billions from education then accuses boards of mismanagement for not being able to absorb those cuts. Then uses that as a pretext to take over school boards.
Crisis created and exploited.
Smith went wholly unchallenged when she used the notwithstanding clause to strip teachers of bargaining rights.
It’s empowered her to use it to strip the rights of trans people.
Think she won’t continue to come for other rights? Think again. #abed #canpoli #canlab

The site for school transportation—HWSTS—is down as well. Couldn’t read about what I already expect: no school bus for my kid, again.
The postwar ‘compromise’ between workers and unions on one side, and employers and governments on the other, is on life support.” #canlab

Now that Smith's UCP has passed a law ordering Alberta teachers back to work, we'll see if the teachers exercise the "Air Canada option" and defy that law. Should be an interesting day tomorrow...

We must continue Dr. Jane Goodall's mission and all fight for the future of the planet.
As someone who has been a teacher for 30 years: call the teacher and have a conversation. Teachers are workers too, though we face more public vitriol than most—for too many reasons to list here.
Don’t hold your breath for that letter. Experts say #CanadaPost strike could be a long one.

Great fodder for teaching logical fallacies in my senior philosophy class.
I honestly wish I had to go digging rather than have a daily plethora of examples at my fingertips.
Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%
Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%
Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.
As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
Does your kitty basically hate everyone? If so, we might have the same one lolllll
Yes, it is indeed a travesty.

A few thoughts on the overwhelming tentative agreement rejection at #AirCanada. 🧵 #canlab
1. The union oversold the tentative agreement by declaring the end of unpaid work. That framing seems to have rubbed some members the wrong way.
