Flu vaccine requirement discarded ‘effective immediately,’ Hegseth says The flu vaccine has been required annually for U.S. military personnel since the 1950s .

I saw an article claiming that Bluesky was failing because traffic was declining. Seriously, how can you expect people to subject themselves to this unending onslaught of stupidity.

Following this administration daily is like watching a toddler play with a loaded handgun.

Rosacea plicata is a species of siphonophore ( a colonial marine cnidarian ) that reproduce primarily through asexual budding to form colonial organisms, where individual zooids are added. Like other siphonophores, it may also have a sexual, medusa-like eudoxid stage for reproduction. It is not a skin condition.

More fun with AI. @tuexplorer1.bsky.social posted a video of a siphonophore dropping some segments, which made me wonder if it was asexual budding. These are two consecutive Google queries:

I was thinking that it doesn't have the finger-like pectoral fins like other gurnards, but then it flashed them in the last couple of seconds of the clip. Nice!

My first exposure to bycatch was in the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery in the 90s. Only 10-15% of the catch was the target species. The rest, including drowned sea turtles, was dumped over the side. And they still fight against TED regulations to this day.

You can see what inspired the name Orange Roughy. The prior name, Slimehead, would not have been as popular on menus. Likewise, Chilean Seabass were Patagonian Toothfish before rebranding. Both are long-lived with slow reproductive cycles and at risk of overfishing due to their newfound popularity

Wed's Independent: Trump: “We're thinking of doing it as a joint venture. It's a way of securing it -- also securing it from lots of other people,” he said when asked whether he would allow Tehran to charge tolls for shipping. "It's a beautiful thing.”

Maybe this is the report he's referencing?

Worrying, but not unexpected. The water vapor carrying capacity of air roughly doubles for every 10°C increase in air temperature.

This image shows the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope undergoing assembly and testing in a clean room at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
It is a 13 m tall rectangular structure, covered in metallic foil with large reflective black solar panels affixed to it. It is surrounded by orange scissor jacks that are not elevated and a huddle of engineers in white clean room suits.

While Artemis II was making its lunar approach today, I stopped by the clean room to see the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope, now fully assembled and being prepared for shipping to the launch site.

They are hoping to launch this fall, but the official line is still "no later than May 2027."

Never too late to get a degree. I was a commercial fisherman until I went to school at 35. Now I help the NASA Ocean Ecology Lab process satellite data to study the oceans from space and I get to work with world-class marine scientists every day.

Growing up in the city, we never heard the farm advice of not naming an animal that could end up on the dinner table.

And that's why I carry the childhood trauma of the time I discovered the bologna in the sandwich I just ate was the one that had not just a first name but a second name as well.
