Keep the Free Press Alive at the University of Alabama By Media Alumni Seeking to Highlight Equity and Diversity

Our students are raising money to keep their magazines going after the University of Alabama suspended them for foregrounding the voices of women and African Americans.

If you've got the means, please support them.

Emily Dickinson’s Herbarium: A Beautiful Digital Edition of the Poet’s Pressed Plants & Flowers Is Now Online So many writers have been gardeners and have written about gardens that it might be easier to make a list of those who didn’t. But even in this crowded company, Emily Dickinson stands out.

“Here’s my proposal: It’s not on us, on you and me, to use AI ethically or responsibly. It’s on the companies to build safe, reliable, ethical products. If you can’t do that and still make money, you don’t deserve to make money.”

A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book is being republished this Thursday. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.

A friend asked me what THE PATTERN SHOP (coming soon!) was about and I totally botched it. 😬

Here's my redo:

It's about a nurse who can't save her family or her patients, so she quits and backpacks around the world—but keeps making the same mistakes. 🦋

Sapphic Undertones Littered L.M. Montgomery’s Fiction, as Well as Her Female Friendships - Electric Literature The renowned author waged a constant battle between doing what was socially acceptable and being true to herself

"Instead of the dull morality tale I’d expected, I read about the pain of social ostracization, struggling with bone-deep loneliness and emotional dysregulation, and coping with childhood trauma by escaping into idealized fantasies."

I have a penchant for UK covers after living in London for a year. I may have to order their edition of this.

Indeed.

I rewatched Battlestar Galactica recently and some of the episodes (especially the anti vaccine one) were troublingly relevant.

Is this the UK cover? 🤩 I’ve been seeing another one.
