Photograph of a woman sitting on the wooden barrier by the water of Sydney Harbour, just under the Harbour Bridge. Her bag is also resting on the barrier, seemingly at risk of falling in the water if she turned the wrong way, or bumped it when she stood up.
Text underneath reads, "Discover the Sydney Writers' Festival line-up of incredible authors and explore their must-read books."
This picture in the latest Library news email from @city-of-sydney.bsky.social makes me feel quite stressed.
Don't put your bag there! Its going to fall in!

I'm grateful for the clinical oncologists of the United Kingdom in these debates. Empowered to give both modalities, they give an unbiased view on the subject.
The anti-RT argument relies on the PROSPECT trial, whose shortcomings were outlined in this letter from 2023

I have no idea what "disruptive analysis" means, but this is a strange and opinionated article, which I generally disagree with.
It starts with the prejudiced view that radiotherapy toxicity is worse than chemotherapy toxicity and then looks for evidence to back it up.

If it hadn't there'd be someone exploring it and uploading the footage to YouTube right now.

Sad that the Wiley journal Head&Neck saw fit to put this atrocious #slop on the cover of their May 2026 issue, including the made-up word "Pathohistology"
I guess they're saving money on illustrators/graphic designers.
Wikipedia tells me Wiley Publishing made $1.87 bn in revenue in 2024.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real
Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?
🚨 For nearly two years - and even now, depending on the day and model - AI models could tell you all about bixonimania, a totally made-up disease in a paper funded by “the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation". My @nature.com story on AI's fallibility in medicine www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Oddly, such people also exist in Australia, and almost all white people over the age of 65 here have skin cancer. 🌞

<cribbed from Wikipedia> An empire biscuit, a sweet biscuit originating in Scotland and popular in the North East of England. It is also popular in Ireland, as well as Canada (particularly iconic in Winnipeg and Hamilton). Biscuits, jam in between two biscuits. The top is covered with white glace icing, usually decorated with a jelly sweet or traditionally, half a glazed cherry.

I appreciate the standards are lower for the podcast content, but I think New Yorker subscribers deserve better than this. He's been given a platform to repeat his claims with no analysis or challenge.

And they have a set of talking points to inflame the left. And that is that social media is a lifeline for L.G.B.T.Q. kids. And that is not true. The internet was a lifeline for them. Kids who were isolated, often in rural areas, when the internet came in—now they could find information, they could find others. There are all kinds of ways they were not isolated. The internet’s amazing.
He also fails to appreciate (or acknowledge) that the internet of the 90s no longer exists. People aren't running their blogs and GeoCities pages like they did then. Social media has replaced so much of what existed then.

And, of course, some are getting around it with V.P.N.s. Although I heard from someone who’s studying it—V.P.N. usage went way up at first, but it came way back down, because the kids want to check their social media thirty times a day, and if you have to load up a V.P.N. it’s a bit of friction.
He doesn't seem to understand VPNs. Does he think that you need to set it up afresh every time you use an app or refresh a website page?
Also, source: I heard from someone?

Today marks 14 years since 17-year-old, unarmed Trayvon Martin was shot and killed while walking home.
14 years later, we’re still demanding a country where our children can walk home in peace — without being treated like a threat.

In case anyone is wondering, "public" school in the UK means "fee-paying" or "private" school.
I have no idea why.

He didn't shoot her in the head at point blank range because he felt like he was in danger. He shot her in the head at point blank range because he was furious that she wasn't afraid of him. He shot her in the head at point blank range because he felt emasculated.

Well, she says his special abilities require "England's unique energies" so presumably the same thing would have happened if he had visited the Isle of Man.

Used to happen across all public hospitals in New Zealand (using three-letter, four-digit unique identifier) and Scotland (using ten-digit unique identifier).
I haven't worked in either of those places for many years so can't say what's happening now.
Perhaps the golden age of PACS has passed.

it must be so frustrating to be jk rowling these days, spending so much time overseeing the hbo harry potter remake and the audible harry potter remake when all she must really want to do is write something new that will be as successful as harry potter which she could definitely do if she tried
