You're on your knees for five minutes. The Colonel doesn't have time for pleasantries today, so you work quickly. But you're well-practiced, and it's all it takes to send her over the edge, shuddering in her office chair as her breath comes out half-ragged. She composes herself again. "Excellent work, Pilot." There it is—the satisfaction that wells up inside of you. A conditioned response to stimuli. She's halfway out the door when she says it- "Sit." A conditioned response to stimuli. You drop to your knees in the middle of the office. The Colonel switches off the lights and closes the door behind her without another word. And you sit. And you wait. The taste of her is still on your tongue—the smell of her lingering like last night's perfume. And eventually, as your knees burn into numbness against the cheap carpet installed by the lowest bidder, she returns. "Again." A conditioned response to stimuli.

The Colonel doesn't have time for pleasantries today, so you work quickly.
