Would actually recommend conveyor belt sushi for a first sushi experience in Japan. You can find cheap ones like sushiro or uobei all around Tokyo and they are all super casual. You can try different plates as you go and see what you like!

I would stick with salmon (sake), tuna (maguro), and yellowtail (hamachi) for a first try. They are all really good and doesn’t have a strong fishy taste like mackerel or amberjack. I’m Japan there is no rolls so you would just be eating fish on rice. Don’t go to hard on the soy sauce!
