Let’s not forget record fucking debt and not even a ferry to show for it….(happy landlords is a shit outcome and worth more to the resorts of Fiji than to actual kiwis)
On the money as always - thank you
Ridiculous statement from Ex Nato chief - UK unprepared for war due to an “ever-expanding welfare budget”.
25.3m people live below minimum income standard.
Since 2010 HMRC hasn't collected £500bn of taxes.
Does he think poor/ill make better defenders.
Silence on corporate welfare, taxing the rich
Cartoon. Title: “Great White Hope” Opposition leader Chris Hipkins on a call to Vice President of the USA, J D Vance. Hipkins is looking upward, with his fingers crossed, saying, “Pick up…pick up…pick up… Oh, hi, Mr J D Vance? Would you consider coming to New Zealand to endorse Mr Luxon and his coalition? Like you did for Viktor Orban in Hungary?” Vance, wearing a MAGA cap, looks angry.

Learned societies and academies, and their journals, need to take a stand. We need to make it clear that we expect our authors to be able to read (the references they cite) and write (the articles they claim to have authored).
They make EVERYTHING worse. Ban, tax, whatever, but acknowledge it already
‘Montesquieu, one of the great writers on federations, said that for an alliance to bind us it must be seen to be just. Alliance ceases to deserve the name when one party claims the right to command and the other is left with a duty to comply.’

The U.S. has vast reserves of wealth that are becoming superconcentrated among fewer and fewer people.
We need to claw some back for the people of the United States to pay for things that we deserve—healthcare, healthy foods, clean air and water.
We can afford it if we want to.

Everyone needs to be talking about how we will pay the price for DOGE’s data theft if they are not held accountable.

The Middle East is full of religious extremists who blindly revere evil men.
Oops! I meant *The United States* not The Middle East.
Comparison by year: Jobs were tracking 2025 levels in first quarter. But, we're now spending hundreds of millions per month on fuel imports instead of activity that supports domestic demand. So, big Trump slump incoming. Govt will watch clueless from the lectern. Keep calm and carry on to WINZ [3/3]
Well-known likability expert Rachael Smalley on the job.
The 1960s saw a stampede of lefty folk musicians, but none as politically engaged as Phil Ochs.
A true activist-musician who thought of himself as a “singing journalist,” Ochs was as comfortable playing at a demonstration as at a concert hall.
A moral giant in a hothouse of genocidal mania.

Daisy Eastlake, "You said you would withdraw from the UK-Israel trade agreement, trade was worth £6.2 billion in 2025, do you accept policies like this come with an economic cost? And how would you plug gaps like that?"
Zack Polanski, "I don't think we should be putting a cost on people's lives"
Not quite but it's good and he should do it more. I don't think this kind of criticism is going to change the nature of what is already a damaged relationship.

Working-class voters already back Medicare for All.
Framed like Social Security — as a benefit earned from work, not a handout — it can reach two-thirds support.

Chart showing print books still dominate in the U.S., but use of e-books and audiobooks has grown over the past decade.
