New Mexico is the first state to regulate firefighting foams containing PFAS as a hazardous waste, after rules adopted this week.

Montana — yes, deep red Montana — has a plan to effectively neuter Citizens United.
No Supreme Court ruling or constitutional amendment needed.
Here's how it works. https://youtu.be/p1fPbGHe3xE?si=QZRQImV8KYD5Y90r
Proud to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood
In NM, we trust people to make their own healthcare decisions. I’ll keep fighting to protect and defend our rights, and put our healthcare access first

Who’s really paying for oil and gas cleanup?
This lawsuit alleges companies underestimated the cost of plugging wells, shifting millions onto the taxpayer.
We must tighten the policies around orphan wells. They are a cost and health burden.

We need better public health data, stronger oversight, and real accountability.
A just transition means protecting both our economy and our communities.
Data matters too.
According to the New Mexico Department of Health, about 1 in 9 adults in NM has asthma, with higher burdens in frontline communities.
We need localized, transparent public health data to guide energy policy.
We also (literally) heard concerns about daily impacts, including industrial noise and smoky flaring across the street from an elementary school in Artesia.
This includes the full story of what’s happening in the Permian Basin:
Spills.
Legacy infrastructure.
Unlined “produced water” ponds (pictured here).🤮
Seeing the variety of energy systems up close was loco. If we’re serious about a cleaner future for NM, we need to understand what’s happening on the ground.
Last week we attended the EOPA NM Convening in the Permian Basin.
We toured the perimeters of various refineries and production sites in Artesia and Loco Hills, NM.

Strong legislation to combat spills means prevention, fast response, and real accountability. As NM leads in energy production, we also need to lead in protecting our environment.
Spills are the illegal release of oil, gas, produced water, or related substances into the environment, on land, in water, or in the air. They affect our land, water, and communities.
Nuclear weapons are a local issue. I joined 250 fellow local and state officials from around the country demanding leadership and action from Congress to reduce the grave risks posed by #nuclearweapons @BackfromBrink

Look at Cibola County. Their leadership recognizes the future is protecting people and building real economic opportunity with good-paying jobs.

New Mexico made its stance on immigration detention clear.
We passed The Immigrant Safety Act to END local involvement in ICE detention contracts.
The state is backing that up, with the NM DOJ asking the Supreme Court to block Otero County’s contract.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is simple:
If you make something, you need to know what will happen to it when it becomes waste.
In the next session, we’ll be looking at smart, fair EPR policies for New Mexico. #nmpol #nmlegis
Plastic is a global problem and one we’re working to solve in NM.
I joined Circular Action Alliance’s Recycling Study Expedition to learn more about EPR and the role advanced recycling can play. Valuable to see this work up close and dig into how this practice could impact our NM communities.

Investigators are searching Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch in New Mexico, years after serious allegations first surfaced.
We deserve answers. What happened at Zorro Ranch, and why it went unchecked for so long, cannot remain unanswered.

New Mexico is leading the nation in equitable mental healthcare innovation.
For the first time, a state is funding medical psilocybin treatment for low-income patients, access to care shouldn’t depend on your income. #nmleg #nmpol
