Interest rates were really high because the Fed was trying to reign in inflation. As others noted, mortgage rates were also crazy high.

Scoop: Trump set to reclassify marijuana soon The change would expand research access but not legalize marijuana.

Axios:

From the linked Washington Post article:

The White House has told federal agencies to prepare to imminently loosen restrictions on marijuana, days after President Donald Trump appeared to express frustration with the pace of easing federal restrictions on illegal drugs.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is planning to soon announce a new administrative hearing, a required step in the process of rescheduling the drug, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe plans that have not yet been announced.

Under the plan, marijuana would be moved to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act, similar to some common prescription painkillers. Marijuana currently has the same Schedule I classification as heroin.

The people cautioned that the administration’s plans are in flux and could change. The White House and the DEA did not immediately respond to questions about the administration’s plans.

Very sad news and a huge loss for journalism. Dan and I had adjacent desks for a couple years when he first became an editor. Just a great guy. RIP.
