A loose painting of a female with brown hair in a white dress. They are sitting on the stairs, leaning their head on a chest of drawers. They are holding one of their feet. The palette is warm reds and browns with yellow greens in the background.
Hope you still like art over here.
Oil paint study of a figure on the stairs.

Hooray for trading card size art of birds of prey.
Sketch painting of Stellan Skarsgård and Renate Reinsve from the movie Sentimental Value.
4. One Battle After Another - Politically charged but character driven, the action is only interrupted by brief moments of dark humour, which ensures you don't gnaw totally through your fingernails. 3. The Secret Agent - A thrilling, thought provoking film which feels politically relevant, it falls a little short of contemporaneously set "I'm Still Here" which was nominated last year, but it's none the less is a heartwarming and heart-pounding watch. 2. Hamnet - Authentic and historical feeling, yet with a theatrical air to the blocking at times, this is a movie overrunning with emotion that annunciates the impact that Shakespeare's plays would have had at the time of writing on both audience members and the man himself. 1. Sentimental Value - It's a movie about making movies, but also a movie about the nature of relationships, about the impact of our childhood on our adult lives, and about accepting ourselves, all while making the best of things and relying on one another.
10. F1 - Feels like it was written by someone who has read the rules of F1 but never watched a race, and maybe only read about people talking but never seen them talk. 9. Marty Supreme - Fun at the start, but the repeated escalation of antics gets tiring by the final third. 8. Bugonia - Carries a few important messages and pretty engaging throughout, but kind of cheapened by a couple of moments towards the end. 7. Sinners - An enjoyable watch for the most part, though a little too all over the place in terms of genre which leaves you wishing it had been one of the other movies it briefly masqueraded as. 6. Train Dreams - An emotional slow burner which does a great job of inducing a feeling of longing for times, places, and people we've lost, whilst acknowledging the importance of moving forward. 5. Frankenstein - Epic in scope and beautifully designed, the visuals enhance the performances giving the film a science-fantasy atmosphere.
Painted a sketch from my favourite of the Best Picture nominated movies at the Oscars this year, Sentimental Value.
Of course to pick a favourite I had to watch and rank them all. I also wrote a baby review for each.
Overall not a strong year in my opinion, but still some enjoyable films.
An oil painting of a girl in a white dress standing in the sea. The light catches her right side, illuminating it in a warm glow, whilst her left falls into shadow. The sea is moderately choppy, with a few small waves breaking behind her.
Had fun painting the shadows in this one.

A close up portrait of a female rendered in a loose style. The shadows are red and purple and the highlights are yellow and pink. The brown hair is roughly blocked in, with scratches in the paint creating highlights. The model is smiling sweetly at the viewer.
Commission from the back end of last year.

A painting of the artist. On a pink background, a large face looks downwards, with two curls of a long fringe framing it. The face is painted somewhat loosely, and sketch marks in dark red paint suggest where other elements of the hair and neck could go.
A collection of abandoned self portraits. Three miniature practise paintings on card, two A4 practises with large brushes on art board, and two unfinished attempts on larger canvases.
Happy New Year all! Managed to actually do a self-portrait by the end of the year that I was happy with. It only took 10 months.
As you can see, there were quite a few practise runs and failed attempts, but I ended up with something big and different.
Oil on canvas, 91.4x61cm / 36x24in
Thanks Kit!!
Lovely, thanks!
A painting of a close up view of a pink and yellow octopus. It looks at the viewer over the top of one of its suckered arms.

Fantastic!
The work paid off on the gem!
A painting of a woman with a pained grimace on her face, holding her hands to her head, pulling at her brown hair. She is wearing a blue dress. The side of a man's head is visible in the top right of the painting, turned to look at her. They are in a bright white room.
"I can't stand you touching me! You make me... Aaaaaah"
Never not obsessed by Andrzej Żuławski's Possession (1981)
Grabbed my big brush recently and tackled an A4 size painting in the same way I do my trading card sized ones.
Here's Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill brining with emotion in oil paint.
The red tiefling Karlach stares out at you. There's a look of disgust on her face. Behind her is a purple background made up of loose brush strokes. Around the edges of her hair and face, little yellow flames appear.
Mommy Karlach looks at you with disgust.
I felt inspired to do some more Baldur's Gate characters, and really enjoyed how this one came together.

A painting of the top of Glastonbury Tor from a lower slope. The tower is in the distance on the left of the painting, atop a rise covered in brown grass. The slope winds its way along the bottom third of the painting, interspersed with green. On the left, the fields and woods in the distance are various shades of green. The top half of the painting is dominated by dark, stormy clouds on the left which lighten and give way to blue sunny skies on the right.
Special thanks to one of my older scuffed up brushes for all the texture in this one. Sometimes fighting the scale of the brush is worth it.

A painting of the final boss of Manaforge Omega, Dimensius the All-Devouring. The giant humanoid manifestation of darkness rests his right hand on the ground as he prepares to slam his left onto a band of adventures who stand tiny against his huge form. Behind him, pipes and metal frames channel purple and pink void and arcane energy. Those colours reflect off his bronze coloured armour, which sit like curling frames on his arms. Lights resembling stars glow within his body and a beam of light bursts from his chest, creating a rift in space in front of it.
The latest raid in WoW is incredibly good looking, so I had to choose something from it to paint. What better to choose than the final boss, the giant Dimensius the All-Devouring.
I even bought quinacridone magenta so that I could get some really vibrant pinks.

A painting of a path winding its way through a forest. The light is a late afternoon glow which pushes through the forest canopy. The path, a reddish brown dirt track takes up most of the bottom third of the painting, before disappearing around a clump of trees. It's loose and sketchy, and mostly reds, browns, yellows and greens.
Keskuspuisto in Helsinki is a wonderful place. The access to nature from the city was truly inspiring.
I also discovered a painter named Fanny Churberg on my trip there, and her art helped inspire this forest scene.
It's an alla prima effort, A4, oil paints, art board.

A painting of a feminine face with the top half in direct sunlight. The model is looking slightly to their left, and has the beginnings of a smile on their mouth. Their hair is wet and hangs down partially on their forehead. The main colours are reds and yellows with blues and purples in darker areas. The brushwork is loose.
Since I've been diversifying with animals and landscapes a lot more, it felt nice to go back to an interestingly lit face.

Painting of a person with white hair in a low cut green and blue dress that resembles feathers. On the edges of the dress, long golden feathers hang. They are wearing golden jewelry including a thigh band which is visible as their left leg protrudes from the bottom of the dress. Behind their head are golden quills.
A bird inspired OC I created recently in oils after a few rough sketches and a failed digital version. Despite all that, choosing a name for them is the hardest part!

An oil painting of Ciri from The Witcher 4 trailer. Her eyes are deeply shadowed, but the left side of her face is lit brightly. She has a determined expression.
Ciri from The Witcher universe is absolutely one of my all time favourite characters. I'm super excited to see the way CDPR interprets her as she grows older.
Anyway here's a 64x89mm oil on card painting that I did based on her new look from the trailer.

A painting of the head and top of the wings of a small bird of prey, starting directly at the viewer with its break slightly open
I love the faces of a bird of prey.

A painting of someone with a Gothic makeup look. Their face is white with dark black contouring and lips, with rainbow colours around their lower lip and in a horseshoe shape on their forehead. They are looking to their left, past a blonde lock of hair falling just above their mouth. They have a triceratops tattoo on their neck.
Here's @squamatha.bsky.social a fellow Twitch streamer I painted. I didn't know who they were when I started but their community came over and gave me lots of love!

Went to look at some art today.
A painting of a profile view of someone with blonde hair tied in a bun on their head. The colours are oranges, browns, yellows, and pale pinks.
Just a little study in earthy tones.

A painting of a black male in sunglasses with a white female on his shoulders. They are at a music festival with a sunset behind them. The girl is waving her hands above her head and is wearing a bucket hat.
Painted my friends for their wedding. They love raves, festivals, and music in general so a picture of them at Glasto seemed appropriate.
