Our neighbour's kid was bouncing on the trampoline during the cyclone last weekend, guess that's one way to keep it grounded??

I've been wanting to read that one, let us know how it goes!
Good evening! I'm reading Labyrinth's Heart, last of the Rook and Rose trilogy by MA Carrick, so good, enjoying this trilogy so much.
Covers of Labyrinth's Heart by MA Carrick, showing a woman in an elaborate gold mask; Map's Edge by David Hair, showing part of an old city floating above & chained to the rest of the city; The City of Brass by SA Chakraborty with a woman in a headscarf standing in a middle eastern cityscape with an elaborate gold pattern in red above her; The Book of Lost Hours by Hayley Gelfuso with a clockface & the silhouette of a woman reading a book below.
OK, I admit I got a bit carried away at the library. Especially as I'm currently reading something else on my tablet. But what could I do??? They all look so good. ππͺπ
Looks like a good month! Off to the library shortly to pick up Labyrinth's Heart. Keep meaning to find By Blood by Salt as well, keep seeing excellent reviews on it.
For anyone not from here, some that I remember are Wairarapa, Porirua, blue light disco, "spray and walk away", kia kaha, MΔori (actually MΔori TV pink panther was the whole expression). And Hamilton but there are other Hamiltons.
The cover of Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, showing a smiling teenage girl with long dark braids wearing dark robes, with a white dog & a skeleton beside her.
Read Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir recently, SO surprised & happy to read so many references to New Zealand culture in the John chapters. But wondering what people from other parts of the world thought about those? Or does it just get lost in the general weirdness that is the Locked Tomb series? ππͺπ
Sounds awful, rest up.
Oooh, Pastry-based assassinations! Now I'm curious..
Ah... if it's not your thing, then I'd take that one off your list. The Liveships trilogy is different, but probably not different enough if you didn't like Farseer. It's definitely slow reading and people continue to make dumb decisions. However, I loved the story & character development.
If you've read The Farseer Trilogy you definitely should start Ship of Magic!
Good evening from a storm ravaged New Zealand. Lots of time today to get into more mystery in The Liar's Knot, by MA Carrick. Really enjoying this series!
Just finished Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, fun book! Totally confusing as well but slowly putting everything in the series together.
Yep, I had to get a reminder of what happened in Harrow and who all the characters were before I started! Which I read earlier this year but to be fair its confusing... so much fun though.
I'm most looking forward to reading the rest of the Rook & Rose trilogy by MA Carrick, great start with The Mask of Mirrors! Having fun with Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir at present.
Intriguing... might put it on my list for a bit later when I can handle something a little dark.
Yes!! That was one of your recommendations, thank you! β
The only problem I have with series rereads & huge chonky books is that I know I have SO many other books there just waiting to be read!!
Cover of The Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick, showing a person wearing an elaborate blue and gold mask reminiscent of wings, and a gold dagger pointing down to the mask.
Wow, I just loved this book & devoured it over one long weekend! I love a good con artist story and this one just kept unfolding layers & layers throughout. Loved the Venetian style setting, the political intrigue, the character growth. The Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick. βββββππͺπ
I also feel that readers (SFF readers at least) are less scared of the huge size of books now. And SFF writers put so much effort into world building that they want to stay in that world for awhile. Actually, as a reader, I love staying in those worlds too.
Ha! Their SF is definitely weirder than your SF. That's got to go on a T shirt somehow...
Loved that series! But the end made me want to reread the whole thing again π
Just started Nona the Ninth late last night. SO different from Gideon & Harrow but looking forward to seeing where it goes!
Hello! Excellent weekend devouring The Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick, excellent book!! Have to find the rest of the trilogy ASAP.
Just read In Solitude's Shadow and loved it! Thanks again for the free copy & I've now bought the rest of the series ππ
I'm going to need to find the rest of the Mask of Mirrors trilogy ASAP but have some library books to finish first! Good problem π. Hint for The Strength of the Few - take note of the symbol at the start of each chapter so you know which world you're in. I was totally lost until I worked that out...
Looks like you're having a great year! Jade City & The Poet Empress are on my TBR, looking forward to them. Favourites this year so far are The Strength of the Few (& The Will of the Many reread) but in the middle of The Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick which is going to be up there too, loving it!!
Love the emergency book idea!!
The Mask of Mirrors by M A Carrick - loving it!
I find most of my new books right here, I've found people who like more or less the same books I do, and see what they post about next!! And thanks for your suggestions in the past! And @tuftymctavish.com
