I’m beginning to think that many political commentators should close their laptops and go and get another job for a couple of years. When they come back, they’ll benefit greatly from the new perspectives (and joy) they’ve gained.

On the left is the front page of The Guardian when political editor Crerar hates Keir Starmer. On the right is what the front page would look like if she would hate Farage.

Love that Farke just stays seated with poker face, whilst there's pandemonium all around him 😎

We agree. It will be richly ironic if the first world leader brought down as a consequence of the Epstein scandal is a British human rights lawyer who never met him.

'Industrial scale' solar farms attacked by Norfolk's Green The county council's Green leader says solar panels should be locally owned and put on roofs.

Who knew that George Robertson, who is demanding vast increases in UK defence spending, happens to work for ... er ... defence lobbyists who stand to benefit from vast increases in UK defence spending?
Oddly, @bbcnews.bsky.social has failed to point this out on any of their news bulletins today.

I know this is me still mourning a long dead world but it does feel remarkable that, not that long ago, British papers on the right would have run editorials and columns arguing that Hungary showed that only a solid, reliable centre-right party could defeat dangerous populists, but now? [crickets]

The result is huge. Vast in its consequences. Orban was the inspiration to all those who came after him. He served as Putin's puppet, undermining Europe from within and Ukraine from without. He funded a vast network of fascists around the world. It's all vulnerable now, or falling apart entirely.

As ever, focusing on the bigger picture helps (which for City, is potentially pretty bright for next season). That pen decision though 🤬

If it’s such a ‘gold mine’ why did the 14 year period of the last Conservative government, throughout which it pursued a policy of issuing licenses and maximising oil and gas production, end up being defined by austerity and the worst wage growth since the Napoleonic era?

The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇

There is a pair near us (to the east of the city). Majestic birds. Especially in the summer (and the warm air currents?), they hardly need to flap their wings, they just seem to glide around effortlessly.
