The difference is that Democrats would vote for banning gerrymandering nationwide, and only vote for it when necessary to counter Republicans. Why do unilateral disarmament? Meanwhile, Republicans will never vote to ban gerrymandering.

They have found the right problem but are hanging it on the wrong source. Is people celebrating violence like this a degradation of society? Yes! So let's look at what CEOs and corporations are doing that alienates people _so much_ that violence against them looks justified to so many people.

Brilliant strategist here. 1.) first, aggressively alienate all your allies for no reason. 2.) second, launch an unprovoked war that gets them shot at and drives their oil prices way up. 3.) now beg them to help out of the goodness of their hearts. Can't see how it would fail!

Pretty sure it's just the Underpants Gnomes business plan.

1: Bomb Iran
2: ???
3: Profit!

He only wanted to drain the swamp to build a new, bigger swamp with fake gold all over it.

Also, they're neck-deep in bots. The propaganda bots meant to spread right-wing crap meet the algorithm meant to surround people with the content that engages them. Normal people block/ignore the bots and see less... the right-wingers see more and more. Their own disinformation machine buries them.

The long time agents, probably. The ones who joined since Trump took office, though, probably see the killing people as a job perk.

In Iceland, police never killed anyone. In Germany, with 1/4 of US population, they killed 265 in the entire 21st century, about what US police kill every 2 months. Every time we hear "police killed an innocent person," we should realize that police aren't supposed to kill guilty people either.

Palantir tried to recruit me once a few years ago. I asked the recruiter if anyone at the company had ever read Lord of the Rings, and they didn't write back.

It doesn't need to be in a _bad_ place. It just needs to be in a place that's both liberal and also has no tolerance for bullshit. Brooklyn or Queens? South Boston? Pittsburgh?

On the other hand, it'll would them 40,000 years to reach another star... if they were aimed at the nearest one, which they're not. By that time I wouldn't be surprised if we've sent something faster that gets there before they do. Plus our EM radiation runs far ahead of them.

Yeah, the mother in "A Sorceress Comes to Call" is one of the most terrifying villains I've read because she's not the dramatic Evil Overlord villain, she's an abusive narcissistic parent, which is a kind of evil we actually encounter in real life. Then you give her magical powers and it gets worse.

I recently described Lady Gaga as "sexy in a bog witch sort of way" and was informed by my friends that normal people do not have a "bog witch" category of sexiness.

Not honestly that surprising to me. A lot of "libertarians" are really just conservatives that want to smoke pot, but some of them are actually libertarians.

This is honestly why I stopped being a libertarian 10 years ago - the realization that AI will be the end of work, and capitalism has no answer for what to do next when there is no need for the bulk of humanity to work, and nothing they can do that will produce enough value to warrant a living wage.

On the bright side, everyone else's business is _also_ dependent on Cloudflare and either AWS or Azure. Really, there's about 5 companies that back the entire Internet and are single points of failure.

I also don't know how much anyone outside of old Democratic consultants actually wants this. I think they're fixated on "how can we win the mythical centrist voter who thinks Trump and Harris are about equally acceptable" and think this is how, not realizing that their own voters are not intersted.

She's animated output backed by a large technical team, and is directed like a special effects studio, not like an actor. The fact that she's the output of AI tools and data scientists rather than 3d modeling tools and graphic artists is irrelevant!

The whole "Tilly Norwood, AI actress" hype is so dumb. It's just PR, and transparently dumb PR. She's not an actress! She's not a conscious entity, she's an animated construct! She's no more an actress than Jesse from Toy Story is an actress!

I just looked it up... it's not even a real pizza place! Hunt Brothers Pizza is apparently a by-the-slice kiosk inside gas station convenience stores, and they're counting it as a pizza chain.

I think so. I grew up in Indiana, my family lives there and I still visit frequently. None of us have ever heard of Hunt Brothers Pizza.

Why does every Democratic think tank always think the way to win elections is to be Republicans? Republicans don't win elections by moving toward the center. The country is so divided now there _are_ no centrist voters; you win election by getting your base to actually vote.

But saying "we're afraid if a progressive wins the primary, they'll lose the general to a moderate" sounds better than "we're afraid if a progressive wins the primary, they'll win and prove political conventional wisdom is no longer accurate, and then nobody will ever listen to us again."

They want to win elections, but Democratic leadership -- milquetoast neoliberal compromisers who think "maintain the status quo" is an inspiring rallying cry -- are terrified of electing candidates that somebody actually likes, and thus being sidelined forever.

I love Crimson Peak, but when recommending it to people I always describe it as "It's not really horror, it's Gothic -- it's using the visual motifs of horror but it's not actually scary." The cinematography is fantastic, I think studios just didn't know how to market a Gothic non-horror film.

I tried this test and what was wild to me is that I basically got a circle. I guess I just like food?

I feel like with your friend circle you can totally make this happen. You might not even need to do anything to make this happen.
