This chapter introduces #deepcontestation and explains the distinction between normal contestation, which permits gradual adaptation, and deep contestation, which rejects foundational norms and threatens systemic stability.

“The world without hegemony” — A long-form article based on my book with Amitav! Many thanks to Sam Haselby! @yalepress.bsky.social
Southeast Asian history shows us that there are other pathways to international order and that, contrary to Western modes of thinking, a hegemonic power is not required for stability
Delighted to see Emmanuel Destenay's review of 'Divergent Worlds' in International Affairs! Many thanks! @iajournal.bsky.social @yalepress.bsky.social

Thank you @yusufimaadkhan.com, I'm glad that you are enjoying our book! :)
Really enjoying this so far :)
Brilliant work from Amitav Acharya and @manjeetsp.bsky.social
HT @judah-grunstein.bsky.social for the recommendation
Thank you Shin, I hope that you enjoy the book!
Thank you so much! I am glad that you found it worthwhile!
In the book, Amitav and @manjeetsp.bsky.social compare the ancient Roman Med with the classical Indian Ocean region to make much deeper and similarly thought-provoking arguments about the limits of Western-centric IR theory in general, and hegemonic stability theory specifically.
Highly recommend.
Thank you @judah-grunstein.bsky.social, we appreciate it! I am glad that you found our argument persuasive!
Just finished the fourth chapter, in which Amitav and @manjeetsp.bsky.social to my mind convincingly puncture a number of the self-perpetuating conventional wisdoms about the contemporary strategic landscape of the Indo-Pacific.
