Current wait times for passport books and cards are approximately 10-12 weeks, not to mention the 3-4 weeks it may take to get an appointment. I do encourage you to get a passport, but the wait time for your updated driver's license or id card from the DMV may only be a week+ after appointment

Imagine that you're at the airport for a business trip, ready to take the family on vacation, or you're trying to make that bereavement flight back home, and you are refused boarding because you don't have a REAL ID compliant identification. Don't let that happen to you!

A REAL ID compliant card will have a star in the top right corner. If yours does not have a star, or if it says "Federal Limits Apply", your card is not REAL ID compliant. There are other valid forms of identification if you don't want to upgrade your driver's license or identification card.

Starting May 7, 2025, US travelers 18 and over must show a REAL ID compliant identification in order to board a domestic flight, or access some federal facilities. The easiest, and most common form of REAL ID will be your state DMV issued drivers license or id card. https://www.dhs.gov/real-id
