Update: that was a delight, I love how thoughtful her approach is -- there are always things she emphasizes with all of the singers, but she also zeros in on specific things for each of them to work on, from French diction to the Dorabella-Fiordiligi sibling dynamic. And we get two more afternoons!

because CD players, walkmans, and VCRs usually fucking worked and did precisely what was asked of them without relogging in and syncing and re-entering passwords and getting confirmation codes and doing 2FA with out TV and phone and clicking a fake "remember me" box that's fucking why

this is a great example of a business reacting to political/corporate shifts as though they are populist shifts. they did correctly read the signs of a nationwide rollback on LGBTQ rights! they just failed to account for how many people are FUCKING FURIOUS about that and will fight you over it

Are there any pieces that piano showrooms ban people from playing, the way guitar stores are said to ban Wonderwall or Stairway to Heaven? Inquiring minds want to know.

Piano update: I was talking with some family members about the impracticality of actually owning a real piano, and one of my uncles said "but the fun thing about piano showrooms is that you can just go there and play," and now I have another reason to overcome my performance nerves.

Temporarily distracting myself from The Horrors by working on a playlist I'm calling "Operatic Souvenirs," made up entirely of tracks meant to evoke specific opera performances I want to remember, going all the way back to college and grad school.

Piano update: it just occurred to me, on my way home from tonight's lesson, that this is a very good week to be working on some Bartók.

Villanova Digital Library - Album :: Digital Library@Villanova University

People have already suggested some of the ones I thought of first (many at Harvard, the Cassey-Dickerson albums at Library Company of Philadelphia), but here are a few more:

I hope more people focus on the import of this turnout last year. Not least bc standing up to bigotry can itself be a rallying cry.

“We want to destroy the humanities as a field, we only want people working vocations, we don’t want you thinking, speaking, writing for yourself.”

Is, once again, a Saturday morning cartoon villain’s plot.

Once again considering getting those lines from that Mary Oliver poem — “When it's over, I want to say: all my life / I was a bride married to amazement. / I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms” — tattooed somewhere.
