I think that the "passion can lead to overwork and then burnout", emotional exhaustion and self-regulation literature in psychology is what people in software development should be reading more of right now

[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraftâs solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moonâs bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA
Whoa đ¤Ż
The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...
I'd like to challenge everyone who's sharing photos to link to either the individual photo or the gallery page you're getting them from, to assist everyone in finding more pictures for themselves. NASA Johnson's Flickr gallery: www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
A golden doodle laying next to a picnic table looking into the camera
On the plus side, Benny here is just enjoying a relaxed lunchtime outside in the unseasonably warm weather in Denver
Yeah, this.
I was not particularly a fan of Harris, and in the alternate reality where she won I think weâd be talking about several horrible things her admin was doing.
âŚI would much rather be dealing with those problems than the ones we have today.
As a physics major turned computer person, Iâve followed QC at a really surface level for a long time. The tech is fascinating and itâs been fun to watch it develop.
I think itâs unlikely that weâll have a CRQC in 2030, but I wouldnât bet a *lot* against it at this point.
Iâm really excited to read this book
Iâm ashamed of this country for a majority voting for this man. And Iâm ashamed of the Congress and larger government for not removing him.
The photos from this mission are just awe-inspiring
Ok this one actually made me laugh
I feel like thereâs a solid anime in combining SCP with an order of exorcist priests
I hadnât planned on one, but maybe I should rethink!
Not to say that it couldnât be used by a cabinet that thought the President was mentally (or morally!) unfit.
But the intention seems to be (IMHO) more along the lines of âthe President had a stroke and someone needs to do the jobâ.
Iâm not a historian, but even a little light Googling bears this out.
The 25th was passed in the wake of Kennedyâs assassination, and in the context of multiple previous presidents who were incapacitated due to stroke, illness, or injury but whose VPs could not legally assume power.
Todayâs âfunâ discovery: an electrical outlet above the ceiling in our basement, not used for anything, just hanging out.
Older homes with lots of past DIY are wild sometimes.

This thread is shocking in the best possible way.
Reading a quantum cosmology paper that has an excellent footnote: âWe leave the theological implications of this statement as an exercise for the reader.â
Iâve known a few people in this camp,
and itâs mostly been âthe cost for the space program is so huge!â
Which⌠like, itâs a lot of money, but in the context of the larger budget itâs not. There are things Iâd cut first.
I mean in this case itâs just boring old supply chain problems getting in the way
If anything, this particular story is radicalizing me into believing we need mandatory thermodynamics classes in high schools
On the NASA #Artemis II livestream just now: "... and the song you heard was Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan to kick off the crew's day" đЎđ´đ
Expanding on this: one of the things that Good Trek gets right is competence porn - it's very satisfying to watch skillfull professionals carrying out valuable tasks they care about with high competence. Tuvok is the character in Voyager who most often hits that particular beat.
Huh.
Ok yeah that post is indefensible.
FWIW I think of targeting datacenters as more analogous to destroying industrial infrastructure. Which might be valid in times of war! But yeah as a general policy would be viewed as terrorism or similar.
I dimly remember this being covered in Daniel Immerwahrâs âHow to Hide an Empireâ.
One of the key themes being that the US has a âpointillist empireâ of bases and carriers, focused on force projection vs holding territory or invasion. A sensitivity to casualties feels like it goes with that.
Entirely aside from being bad behavior, btw. Like, I disagree with the Bluesky team on a ton of things, but they should get to build the site they want to.
I was reminded of this excellent post again today, and I do think this mismatch is responsible for a ton of the problems on this site.
I see folks who seem to think that they can instead bully the Bluesky devs into building the site *they* want. Which⌠does not feel like a winning strategy.
