A question came up: Do the youths today only know Michael Jackson as a singer and not as a pedophile, or do they only know him as a pedophile and forget he was a singer too? I could really see this going either way.

I am intrigued by this and would like to see more.

Also at Dr. Demento's retirement party: Emo Philips! One of my top 5 favorite comedians of all time. I've been a fan since first hearing him (on the Dr. Demento Show) in 1985. He's the guy who saws off his thumb in Weird Al's UHF, but that was just movie magic. @emophilips.bsky.social

Dr. Demento and Eric D. Snider. Dr D is balding and grey. Eric is grey but not balding. Both wear glasses.

I was honored to be invited to Dr. Demento's retirement party. He played some things by me over the years, and a few times I got to be a "cast member" (hang out in the studio during the show). He's been a mentor and role model. Very happy to honor him for 55 years on the air and 85 years on earth.

There's a sense in which I respect the evangelical leaders who unhesitatingly lined up behind the idea that President Pedophile B. Antichrist, the libertine looting and burning the world every day, is god's manifestation on earth. You have to rework your brain and moral sense so much to get there.

Journalism friends, what’s with every story about D4vd saying, usually in the headline, that the victim’s remains were found in his Tesla — not his “car” but specifically his “Tesla”? I get why that detail is interesting, but how are we justifying it from a journalism standpoint?

Good or not, the important thing is that I've preordered it.

I greatly enjoyed Matt’s previous book Opposable Thumbs (about Siskel and Ebert), as well as his big-ass Spider-man book before that. So this will probably be the bad one. He’s due!

I'm sure my rock-bottom expectations helped, but I enjoyed SCRE7M a lot more than I did its 2-3 immediate predecessors. I felt like the characters weren't as overtly stupid this time.

The Simpsons can only exist in societies that are dumb enough to be mockable but smart enough not to collapse. This narrow “Goldilocks zone” of balanced idiocy is fragile and rare across the galaxy. Most planets invent The Simpsons right before destroying themselves

Two trainers at the gym were talking about a fitness app that uses AI to judge your form, etc. I said, “I won’t make the joke about all the intelligence at a gym being artificial,” and they didn’t get it.

Yeah, definitely a plus that they don't even try to explain the science of it. There's no need for that.

Just because we don't have the votes to impeach Mr. Bean doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it.

I largely enjoyed MIKE & NICK & NICK & ALICE, particularly the action stuff. Some of the dialogue is snarky and overwritten, assigned to characters without regard for whether it fits that character. Very fun premise, though.

I'm visiting NYC. I get a ticket to see Letterman, and I start thinking about my friend from freshman year who I used to watch Letterman with. Haven't seen him in years. I wonder what he's up to?

I walk around the corner and there's my friend, also visiting NYC and seeing Letterman.

It’s gross to talk about how great America is for “religious freedom” when we have senators talking like this.

I always took it to mean they didn’t really want to screen it at all but they know there’s a stigma to that, so they show it at the last possible minute out of spite. They figure it’s probably not going to get good reviews no matter how easy they make it.

Sure, "death doula." That's a thing. Let's all be "death doulas." Let's all get our "death doula" training (sitting next to person who dies). Everyone's doing it.
