"No pressure existed whatsoever" on the FCDO to appoint Mandelson, Keir Starmer tells the House of the Commons. And that, I think, is gonna be a big big hostage to fortune.

Events in Westminster are depressing, but do bear in mind that they will make an excellent TV drama in two decades' time.

I can't be the only one who used in-website app functions and back-page coding to customise their MySpace to display a shower of black hearts and stars across the page? Skills that, as soon as UX became a core tech concern, I immediately lost. I feel sad about that.

I just accidentally ‘poked’ someone on Facebook. Wtf, when did that function come back? I’m having an anxiety attack from 2007.

A striped cat appears to be “yelling” at a kitten with the exact same coloring. The kitten’s eyes are wide open and their ears pinned back.

Maybe start with an old episode from somewhere in the middle, then watch the final one, then dip back in wherever you want to.

‘Greatest series ever’ ending after 70 years The show has been hailed as ‘a truly distinctive landmark piece of filmmaking’

I'm so sad to hear this, but of course it's inevitable. Some of the best TV I've ever watched is within this series. Can't wait to see the final instalment.

When I was in my twenties and working on a trade magazine, I went to a party hosted by a uni friend. She was a trainee barrister so it was full of that sort of person.

One bloke, asking about my job, genuinely said: “Why are you doing that? Why don’t you just get a job on the Economist?”

@glutelord.bsky.social is essentially giving a PhD dissertation in under two minutes on how modern incel culture is coopting a very narrow and weirdly specific gay sub-culture.

In parts of London there is a 'comprehensive' system that includes an absolute ton of entrance examinations and 'bursary' schemes which you have to go through just to access state secondary in your local area. I am so unbelievably cross about it.

I can't be the only person whose main issue with cowork tools is the fact that they do it (whatever it is) for you? I am freelance BECAUSE I am someone with high control needs. This does not look useful to me, it looks like a major fuck-up waiting to happen.

The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT.

From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't.

A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:

A powerful man sexually pursuing a young woman who works for him is oppressive. It immediately limits and reshapes her future to her detriment, whether she is physically forced into it or not. It’s coercion either way, and that is why it’s so wrong. It’s an abuse of power.

Gen Z Turns to 'Anxiety Bags' to Manage Stress - Provo Today Hannah Fowles, a 22-year-old from Provo, Utah, found herself spiraling with panic and racing thoughts after a stressful day at work. To cope, she has turned to carrying an 'anxiety bag' filled with items like fidget toys, essential oils, and breathing exercises to help calm her nerves when she feels overwhelmed.

Come on now, this isn’t new. We used to carry around anxiety bags. They just contained 10 Marlboro Menthol instead.
