How much revenue did your fire service make last year? The military? How much money did your legislature make last year?

Why is the postal service the only governmental agency that's expected to be profitable? In the US or Canada?

That's Not What Unc Means You’d never know the meaning of unc or its origins in black culture if you looked to mainstream media.

This is 100% a thought I’ve had as well. As a theatre kid and game dev, I’ve thought about how playing a game is very similar to acting in a play.

non-dev playing a game: why didn’t the team do [X thing that seems obvious]? are they stupid?

Vsync, screen tearing gives me migraines.

My exact reaction was: this is a video game movie in its truest AAA sense: they came up with a bunch of set pieces and then said “ I don’t know, story happens”.

Marathon post: Spawned as Rook, commuted Rook v Rook violence, loaded up on their kit, immediately extracted. GOTY.

Once you get some of the rook upgrades: start with a bunch of C4, extra health, upgraded pistols, things get really interesting.

I feel like any dev I’ve worked with is fond of DA.

When I was in University in 2010 I wrote a paper about how video games are more like archives than a single text through the lens of DA:O.

DA is 💯 one of the reasons I’m in the industry.

“Rowling has made it abundantly clear that she thinks attacking transgender people via the legal system is a worthwhile cause and a good use of her vast personal fortune…there’s no way to watch this show without supporting Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting…”

The more expensive the purchase, the bigger the monitor required.

It's for investigating, mainly. Imagine committing to a new PC or- heaven forbid- a new car from a tiny phone screen. Doesn't bear thinking about.

Controversial but - students *perceive* they have been failed when what has happened is they have failed to understand information retrieval is a skill requiring effort. I don't believe a zero friction experience is realistic or desirable in learning, actually.

I know this has been pointed out many times before but I just read it and good lord I was not prepared for just how little is in it.
The actual Sun Tzu text is really short! And simple!

“I read the art of war” = “I read a book for about an hour“.

a young boy with a yellow shirt on is smiling for the camera . Alt: a young boy with a yellow shirt on is unimpressed by this bullshit.

Tech Bro: I’m smart: I read the Art of War.

Me: Your read 50 pgs of obvious military advice? That makes you good at business?

BB: I read the masters commentaries too!

Me: you read 150 pgs of dudes paraphrasing and pointing out obvious examples of ‘wisdom’?

BB: Here’s my TedTalk

I either want England to win (Ireland win the champ) or for them to be blown out enough that they get the spoon.

This was one of the games I played when we were living very poor after undergrad in a basement ‘garden suite’ in Vancouver. No money to buy many games, so I played a ton of the multiplayer.

A betting line for nuke drops is wild:

Whatever the profit line: it makes sense to bet a massive amount on no nukes*

Win the bet and win the money; lose the bet and money doesn’t fucking matter - a nuke dropped!? We’re done!

* I will NOT be betting on those hellsites, they are all scams.

"Rugby values" folks love to claim the sport is for "every type and size of person", but bad actors have thoroughly dehumanised trans people so much in the sporting world that that decades-old rhetoric used to sell the sport no longer even applies to us.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
