Hi, I'm a rich actor with an incredible career, guaranteed financial security, and worldwide fame, and I'll literally never have to worry about not working ever again. And now time for a speech about how we all need to start using AI

Queens Park insider reports the call sign for Doug Ford's new private jet will be Air Ford One.
And now, for my next trick, I will make 29 million tax dollars disappear into thin air.
Canadian English is a fascinating mix of American, British, and homegrown.
Apologise = British ("s")
Canadians use "z" ("zed").

Today is the 251st anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops.
I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III.
Remind you of anyone?
The FBI guy is on a paranoid bender and won’t leave his room.
The War guy quotes bible passages from Pulp Fiction.
The Health guy collects raccoon dicks.
It’s an Idiocracy on steroids.
The FBI Director, the DC US Attorney, and the Secretary of Defense walk into a bar.
Apparently like every day.
Banning algorithmic pricing ought to be a no-brainer call for any government: people don’t like to be ripped off, surveilled, or treated differently from their peers.
Algorithm pricing does all three of those things.
Carbon tax stickers that don't stick. License plates you can't see. Beeping Covid bracelets that don't exist. Wind turbines torn down and then built again. An Ontario Science Centre roof that refuses to collapse.
Are we even sure Doug's new private jet has wings?
“The super-rich excel not only at making money, but at avoiding and evading taxes.”
In their latest article @us.theguardian.com highlighted that from 2000-2024, the 1% captured 41% of all new wealth. Meanwhile the bottom half of humanity got just 1%

Or redirect taxes already collected?
Reduce $$ for military by a fraction, cover the entirety of free medicare, w/out raising taxes.
It's like libraries- one of the best value for money around. Warming / cooling centers, free childcare, parenting education, business advice, entertainment, ...
These rich Americans also want higher taxes on the wealthiest.

Because high tax rates = healthier, more productive citizens, higher education levels, lower crime rates, high innovation & research, high employment,...
It's more cost effective.
A progressive tax system increases tax rates as income increases. Generally leaving bottom 20% or so not paying taxes.
I haven't suggested "no taxes". The rich earn most of their money via investments, therefore taxes on investment income should be at least equal income tax rates. That's fair.
Given how much Americans pay private insurance, suspect a public one, w/out all the profit, would be substantially cheaper?
Before Canada started privatizing it, public system cost about 9% of GDP. While American one cost 12-15% all in?
Pretty sure Elizabeth Warren says Medicare will be cheaper?
The people of Untario have already given up 😢
$65 Billion Missing????
“In the Auditor General’s 2024 report, she notes that over $65 BILLION IS MISSING. Most of that was received from Ottawa as transfer payments intended for health care, but for 5 years the Ford government hadn’t kept track of where that money went! (Any guesses?)”
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is demanding that Ontario Premier Doug Ford reverse his decision to buy a private jet with taxpayers’ money.
“It is completely unacceptable Ford is billing taxpayers for a private jet so he can fly around the province in luxury”

A Bolsonaro style imprisonment would be nice too.
"We are being asked to accept permanent environmental damage, long‑term public liability and water risks that can't be engineered away, all to support an industry in structural decline that contributes little in royalties and is largely owned by foreign investors."You tell 'em,@corblund.bsky.social.
The oligarch from Etobicoke. Time to send him packing.
Aren't VAT taxes regressive? - negatively impacting lowest earners the most.
Luxury taxes + progressive income tax + aggressive taxes on capital gains are generally fairer.
Low income can afford food & housing, while super-rich are down one yacht.
Or return to previous tax levels on the top 1%, which used to be 90% in the US.
Or fully staff IRS, which earns approximately $7 for every $1 spent- mostly auditing the rich & requiring them to actually pay their taxes.
Or bring in full Medicare, saving families $10-30k / yr in insurance
Low taxes generally mean high out-of-pocket.
Low-quality public education drives parents to private schools- $10-35k/ child.
Americans spend $800-1500/ child per month on daycare (avg $12k/yr PER CHILD), which is free or subsidized almost everywhere else.
Effectively $30k /yr "tax" on 2 kids.
