I know, eh- such a fitting punishment 🙄

Honestly the most British response ever…

Agree with both your points. I was initially encouraged by the bit about EDI being front and centre but then it didn't seem to feature again, even though that would be a) absolutely key and b) quite hard to implement properly at uni level.

Good morning beautiful Edinburgh 😎
Everyone from the Global South moving to the Global North for a postdoc should hear this advice:
Oh, you really meant it about dressing like him ☺️ Fab episode, really enjoyed it.
Oh I saw this- she's teaching him to value "real experiences" as opposed to, I don't know, saving the planet or something...
Brilliantly accessible piece about gain of function. And I speak as someone who uses the term willy nilly (where we don't know the molecular basis but do know that the resulting phenotype is worse than a complete null). We REALLY need better descriptors...
Ha, brilliant!
Oh duh, sorry, of course he is, I already follow him... Congrats @gregfindlay.bsky.social too!
Wow Nicky, that's such a tour de force- so exciting. Well done all of you (is Greg on here??)
Of course!
Ah, when I first moved to Edinburgh all the Unix computers were named after types of whisky- having to type bruichladdich every time I logged on really made me aware I was now in Scotland 😀
Really looking forward to this. He was amazingly kind to my then 10 year old son, who I had introduced to the Goodies via DVDs and who had made a lego movie version of them!
Pretty sure he is....
Yes, great analogy. Just to be absolutely clear, I was referring to the ICSs at MPA idea as a good one, NOT using AI...
Oh that's a good shout. My only concern with UoA4 would be that so many good impacts came from the more social end of psychology, and they might get a bit more overlooked on MPA, but that could be sorted.

'He said this burden is particularly pronounced on REF managers, who are employed by universities to prepare for and manage submissions to the exercise.'
Risks freeing REF managers up for redundancy not creativity and ignores the huge volume of REF preparation work undertaken by academic staff. 2/3
I think we may never know, but the student concerned was very new to imaging at the time. Glad you approve of the names 😀
I know, eh, that was my favourite too 😀 It's from a few years ago but I had never seen this folder- cheered me up immensely this morning!
Some Qs re assessment changes:
- What specific problem(s) does it solve?
- What evidence/evaluation shows interviews improve decisions?
- Was potential bias at interviews (gender, race/ethnicity, career stage, institution/prestige) considered and how will it be monitored/mitigated? 5/6
Folders labelled “weird”, “one nice cell”, “shite” etc
I genuinely love it when people in my lab file their results with terminology that makes perfect sense 😁

Not really how I imagine Easter 🐣 😬
It's me in the Financial Times, detailing the deep and pernicious influence of one-size-fits-all management consultancy in our universities... Take a look! 👇

OK Kids, our ERK story is finally heading out into the world. After 9 years of having funding, losing funding, losing staff, getting funding, gaining staff...it's ready!
We discovered a novel stage of what is an otherwise extensively studied process: how cells respond to extracellular signals. 1/n
ICYMI last night, a brief blog post from me on the experimental conditions required to reach a stable scientific career - navigating the 'valley of death' between a postdoc and a well-functioning group leader with a team.
