The rural municipality is largely against the construction, but the Sask Party pushed it through with zero consultation, even though Bell hasn't answered 90% of the questions about environmental impact. There's also a senior's care home on that land, and the centre threatens water/energy resources.
Massive AI data centre--largest in Canada--was recently approved for construction about 1km outside of my city, on land belonging to the George Gordon First Nation. Approvals rushed. "Council" created a week before the decision. Oppositional speakers silenced at council meeting. This is pure greed.
Not to keep banging on about this, but we're basically seeing zero academic jobs in the humanities, with only a few term positions across multiple fields, while jobs like Chair in AI Studies go forward with high salaries because universities know they can squeeze money out before the bubble pops.
this looks so good

I think I got a decent poem out of it, which was nice!
We, the Carney critics, predicted this:
“The federal government is ignoring the concerns of First Nations in their continued efforts to placate a United Conservative Party government that does not appear to have any interest in acknowledging and protecting Treaties and Treaty rights, or …”
That’s great!

Anyone else doing the CV2 2 day poetry contest? The words this year are wild.
A large white waterfowl with orange feet stands in front of a door. On the door is a cardboard sign secured with tape that reads, "DO NOT LET THE DUCK IN." Adding insult to injury, I think the duck might be a goose.
Whatever you do,
Check out this interview on the Sewers of Paris podcast with lovely human @mattbaume.bsky.social, where we talk about Labyrinth, Beetlejuice, and more: www.mattbaume.com/sewers-shown...
I feel like anyone who has ever applied for a $500 grant to host an event or supplement a project will feel this.
Never not thinking about Sara Ahmed's discussion of "brick walls" in academia, and how university bureaucracy is designed to frustrate creative/confrontational work by burying it under red tape.
Just finished my 6th interview for the Labyrinth book. I enjoy doing these, but they take a lot of time and effort, and for disabled/mentally ill authors, the promotional circuit can be really exhausting. The level of publicity that authors now do, as the new norm in publishing, is fraught.
every superhero movie should run with a PSA about how all the cool shit they’re about to see is based on the work of freelancers unsupported by the companies that have exploited their work for decades
TODAY! 2:00pm SK time. Attend remotely by scanning the QR code. We'd love to see you there!

There’s a scene in Raw Deal (1986) filmed at a drag bar in Chicago. Does anyone know if this place really existed? I can’t find any info about it. @mattbaume.bsky.social?
