it's really cool that because of AI every website now has to protect itself from scraping even more aggressively and anytime I load a site with useful information I see a flash of real person verification

does anyone have the like… I don’t know, announcement (?) of Visual Idiot’s death saved or know where it was posted?
I was just reminded of them and I want to remember more. They were always so fucking sweet to me.

yeah white label open source that you can self-host + selling a hosted SaaS version... isn't a bad idea. Infrastructure is what companies are willing to pay for 🙃
Making it so apps are very inclined to build on the atmosphere because they get so much for free but users don't need to care would be SUCH a big win for everyone.
I'm specifically thinking about this in the context of upstart apps that don't yet have traction.
atproto has so many upsides for these types of apps:
- free existing social graph
- tons of dev tooling
- potential for off-loading of being responsible for user data
I think one of the most effective Atmosphere OSS projects that doesn't exist but *could* would be a white label PDS back-end that effectively enables what @npmx.dev does by default, where user data is opaquely stored in the Atomosphere but can be easily migrated to your main PDS when you want

Pleased to announce that an Authenticated Transfer Protocol (ATP) working group has been created at the IETF!
Grateful to everybody who participated in the BoF and chartering process. Details on next steps and how to get involved inside.

Companies are gambling at this point. If you can, please speak up inside your company so they up their open source strategy and commit (more) funds to make our shared commons sustainable. We're going to lose it all. Funding dynamics in OSS need to change. Fast.
oh I'm excited for it 🍿
we about to get another legendary Matt Mullenweg thread
the weird thing about companies and open source is that it's incredibly easy to make a fucking huge impact and almost no companies do
so many companies could just bankroll the IBB as a write off, and yet... we've lost it.
there's so many easy wins and instead you're worried about AI SEO instead 🙄
it feels like we’re still early enough that putting this out there as a Thing Atmosphere Does is still possible, especially if Bsky adopts it 👀
every now and then I check in on how AI is as a replacement for Google search and every time it's completely wrong

sick, so mutes go in a permissioned repo and then apps that want to show you post types can rummage around and see who you’ve muted. Honestly I don’t think that’s a bad solution?
I wonder if the permissioned format would allow for this… apps get the permission to subscribe to a mutes lexicon
but if another type of app - say The Everything App which includes Twitter and Instagram and Foursquare and Last.fm equivalents - also shows you Bluesky posts… persisting mutes would be SO nice. Set once, respect anywhere.
that requires intention and foresight
are these app level or protocol level? I can see arguments for both
We talk a lot about those who make npmx so beloved but today it is the time to highlight another important part of our community and our values 🏳️⚧️
