六角大王
a 3d modeler that once existed in japan
production has already ended
i keep feeling more “future”
in those old snow white macs
that whole system of forms
still outpaces anything recent
i made up the insides of a tachikoma
kinda fun
ideal heat curve
0–7 low
7–9 medium
9–20 high
20–22 medium
22–28 low
28–30 very low
without the aluminum inner wall
hard to get this
just carbon felt
about 20 min on 0.5 oz
not bad at all
but the heat curve drifts off from ideal for rice
adding the aluminum inner wall
was a good call
just need something
that doesn’t push the felt too hard
burn curve on this one
low → medium → high → medium → low → very low
timed for rice
probably not great for the felt
so just watching it for now
stopwatch in hand
timing each phase
this kind of trial and error
is kinda fun
this stove
has an aluminum inner wall
to control vaporization
it works
but it traps more heat inside
and the carbon felt wears faster
tried a bunch of setups
thought more carbon felt
would mean better burn time and output
but keeping it just dense enough
to barely hold the fuel
makes vaporization easier to control
CF stove for rice
in an Esbit setup
turns into something else
just about half an ounce of fuel
and it’ll run for an hour
more like simmer / keep-warm now
tapioca starch texture’s really good
kinda nice
still — the stove alone can’t do the full cycle
it only works once you pair it with the right pot stand
even just tweaking the slit length a bit
and the whole thing starts behaving different
kinda why it’s fun
the heat curve got smoother than a normal alcohol stove
but dialing in the timing was still kinda messy
ended up adding an aluminum inner wall at the boundary
just to mess with how the vapor moves
and that finally started to click
always felt like there should be a stove that can actually follow that
but nothing off-the-shelf really gets there
then i saw someone building one with carbon felt
and yeah… that was it
i’d been lowkey annoyed with how hard it is to control heat on alcohol stoves for rice
you need that curve — low → medium → high → medium → low → very low
and timing to match it
inline layout — everything aligned
air just goes straight up
clean chimney pull
less dramatic, more controlled
oxygen stays steady, burn stays steady
this one just holds the 25 min curve
vents offset vs inline
offset layout — vents slightly staggered
air cuts sideways a bit
fuel and oxygen mix a bit harder
heat jumps fast, boils quick
doesn’t really stay there tho
long low-fuel runs get kinda unstable
heat stacks up… then drifts
today’s batch
aluminum ended up being the most stable
burned over 5 minutes longer than the others
paired with this tiny square cooker (about 0.5 cup)
it just works
and yeah… kinda cute
