Justus Erus Edung was only 25 years old when he discovered Kenyanthropus platyops in a team led by Prof. Meave Leakey in 1999.

This 3.5 million year old “flat-faced” skull quickly grabbed international headlines and changed the course of human evolution.

On this “brisk” winter day in #Edmonton, thinking about the late Aga Khan’s generous gift to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. The world’s Ismaili community is mourning. But know that the Aga Khan’s memory will be a blessing here for decades. #yeg #UniversityofAlberta #ualberta #AgaKhan

We CT scanned thousands of vertebrates from US natural history collections and made them freely available. Countless people have used the data for research (>200 pubs) and to learn anatomy/morphology.

It's long to read but you will not regret it.
This perspective from a former editor in chief of Science magazine, provides a good confirmation of what many of us already suspected.
Thanks @jeremymberg.bsky.social for this honest & raw description of publishing in science, and not only in Science.

I recently stepped down as an AE at a Springer:Nature journal for reasons similar to o the JHE board (where I also once served). Time to stop allowing ourselves to be exploited for corporate profit. We can do everything without them.

Flyer has a white box on an orange background. The AABA 2025 logo and heading is at the top. In large orange font it says “WORKSHOP PROPOSALS” and in smaller font beneath “Submit a workshop proposal for the 2025 AABA Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland! Submission portal closes November 15, 2024.” A link to bioanth.org is shown and there’s a cute orange crab on the lower right corner of the graphic.

I’ve decided to leave Scientific American after an exciting 4.5 years as editor in chief. I’m going to take some time to think about what comes next (and go birdwatching), but for now I’d like to share a very small sample of the work I’ve been so proud to support (thread)
