The School Surveys team are out and about! 🧡
If you’re near Kent, come see us at the Education People Show today! June will be chairing a panel on SEND changes, sharing our latest national insights, and hearing from school leaders about their experiences.
Come say hello! 👋
🟠 One headteacher has started a weekly one-question pulse survey to track minutes of learning lost — helping the school tackle disruption and maximise teaching time.
If you want a closer look at behaviour, merit systems, and directed time, our latest Teacher Tapp blog is here: bit.ly/490iSsW
Bar chart showing teachers’ views on pupil behaviour since they started at their current school. Among primary teachers: 9% say behaviour improved significantly, 23% improved slightly, 30% stayed the same, 34% deteriorated. Among secondary teachers: 8% improved significantly, 18% improved slightly, 28% stayed the same, 28% deteriorated slightly, and 19% deteriorated significantly. Reported by Teacher Tapp.
Primary school teachers are reporting more negative experiences with behaviour than their secondary colleagues - a trend we’ve seen across recent surveys.
Some striking insights:
🟠 Only a small proportion of teachers feel supported by current behaviour policies.
Wonder if staff will complete the surveys? We get it.
That’s why we’ve made surveys quick, simple, and easy to access—whether by QR code or direct link. Engagement without the extra effort.

The insight is clear: teachers who are familiar with their school’s AI policy feel more confident (74% vs 53%).
Key takeaway for leaders: clear communication of AI policies is essential to support staff and ensure responsible use. 💬
AI use in schools is growing rapidly – but policies aren’t keeping up. 🤖
Only 22% of primary and 32% of secondary teachers report having an AI policy.
Not all have read it, and some are unsure if one exists.
Yet 87% of teachers feel comfortable using AI for school work.
Teachers don’t just want “wellbeing” promises - they want real improvements.
30% protected PPA time, smaller classes, or free healthcare were each as appealing as a 10% pay rise 👀

For school leaders, this highlights an important insight: sometimes it’s the small, everyday disruptions that have the biggest impact on learning and classroom management. Understanding this can help in shaping more effective behaviour policies and support for teachers.
Distracting others is the leading cause of sanctions in schools. 👀
Across both primary and secondary settings, it accounts for 53% of behaviour points.
At the same time, the proportion of teachers who have never used AI is shrinking rapidly.
The takeaway for school leaders? AI is becoming a normal part of teaching. Understanding how your staff are using AI can help shape policy, professional development, and best practices across your school.
Bar chart from Teacher Tapp showing how recently teachers used AI tools (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DALL·E, Midjourney) for school work. Apr 2024: 20% used AI in the last week, 41% never used it. Oct 2024: 31% used AI in the last week, 31% never used it. Oct 2025: 58% used AI in the last week, 11% never used it. Overall, teacher use of AI tools increased sharply over time.
This week, our data shows a significant shift: for the first time, a majority of teachers (58%) report using AI to support their school work - up from just 31% last year. 🤖

Last week, Trust CEO Sir John Townsley sparked debate by suggesting “dreadful parents” are to blame for some school challenges. We dug into our data on what teachers think (covered in Schools Week) and it’s a timely discussion as we launch our Settling In Survey.
We also support schools in drilling down into specific areas for improvement, such as consistency of behaviour policy or communication.
If you’d like to explore ideas for your next staff survey, our blog posts and 30-minute support calls can help you get started: bit.ly/3YZyCHm
Our popular wellbeing questions include:
“Leaders in my school care about wellbeing” (agree/disagree scale)
“What should leaders do to improve wellbeing?” (multiple options)
Fun, creative questions like:
“What’s the best book you’ve read recently?”
“Would you welcome a 7am–6pm email policy?”
Our latest Teacher Tapp survey, which feeds into our School Surveys benchmarks, shows slightly lower contentment this September.
These insights highlight the importance of weekends and staff wellbeing.
Surveys can help schools open meaningful conversations.
