I've got a bunch of early 80s 2000AD including this. He's a genetically engineered soldier with a chip in his head that records his personality and memories. His equipment (his helmet, bag and gun) are controlled by chips from three of his former squadmates.

I liked Between Two Fires, too, partly because it's one of those books where I feel like those of us who really liked Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror are exchanging a secret handshake.

I've kept below 185 pounds for fifty weeks! I've lost thirty to fifty pounds a couple times, but I've had trouble keeping it off. I made a goal of 100 weeks below 185. I'm halfway!

Black Tongued Thief and Daughter's War are so freaking good.

If it could get a date while running like it has loaded diaper, then we're talking superhuman.

His opponents talk about how he triggers memories of a gaslighting parent. His supporters say, "Daddy's getting his belt, and someone's going to pay."

Two striking things about the US:
1. In Trump's core support is an ecosystem for pyramid schemes and fraud.
2. Both Trump's opponents and supporters cast him as an abuser.

Best argument for: He's too much of a coward to pop up and raise his fist.
Best argument against: If they attempted a staged assassination, someone would screw it up or leak it.
Worst argument against: They're too ethical for their plan to include shooting someone in the audience.

The quote post is saying that the nostalgia is about cloud storage and turning ownership into renting.

You make a good point that you can have digital media you control. I'd point out you're still retro. You picked 2010 instead of 1996.

I think that will be hard to beat as an accurate 300 character summary.

Now that I look at it a little more, it the arm probably wouldn't last if it was made of PLA, which is the most common 3D filament. It'd probably break at the elbow if it were actually put in a pocket. I've seen plastics strong enough, so something else would work. Good luck with it. It's adorable!

Do you have a 3D printer? Have you made an STL file from it? I watch you run really big rings around me in Blender. This daydream seems super achievable.

Sorry, hyperfocusing on one thing. I really liked Over Your Dead Body. Everybody is doing a kind of role they're really good at. It's got lots of really cool turns. It's a great translation.

There's a single line in the Trip that completely lost me for the male lead. It was a fun movie, but it didn't matter to me whether that guy lived or died. I'm really glad Jason Siegel doesn't say the line.

This question is 99% for @bluefiddleguy.bsky.social, but someone else might know and the answer is general interest.

Does someone have a suggestion where to get dark rye flour for Rúgbrauð? A friend of mine wants to make it and is getting stuck on that step.

I'm proud of my description of Heat: Pedal to the Medal as "Dominion meets Candyland".

But that description is perceptive. Games often automate away all the places where you can't make a choice, and if you did that with Candyland, it'd just tell you who won.

I looked at my notifications and got the order of your last two replies wrong, and I thought this came first and was then a joke.

I suppose the kernels can take on oil. The unpopped weight would reflect the carbohydrates since it can't be taking on carbs as it pops.

I found myself thinking about how much that is before it's popped, as though the mass of popcorn changes and not the volume.

I could absolutely imagine doing this with peanut butter.

I saw Touch Me. It's kind of like a Wes Anderson-esque millennial Rocky Horror. I almost missed it, so I thought I'd put up a note.

This is something Gabe is unusually good at. I'm struck how much some of the strips evoke with just the set of eyebrows or the shape of the mouth.

The Constitution is a tool to create a just society and obedience to it should not be considered and end unto itself.

I don't mean to dismiss the legality, but targeting wealth inequality is critical and immediate.

Specifying that something is an amendment suggests you think they're not as important.

Also, both sidesing in the age of concentration camps makes you sound like a bad guy.

I looked at your timeline, and you didn't appear to be.

If the last few years have taught me anything, it's that the law is what people with power and the will decide it is. The constitution is crystal clear on birthright citizenship, too.

Yeah, that was very convincing. If you'd introduced him to me just after seeing that movie, my first impulse wouldn't be to congratulate him but to try to get the hell out of the room.

An alias suggestion that sounded like something @bluefiddleguy.bsky.social would do. It's aliasing `sudo !!` to `bitch-please`. It'd work like this:

% less file.txt
permission denied
% bitch-please
<contents of the file follow>

Project Hail Mary was on this list of Obama's summer reads. I made my wife laugh doing impressions of Obama getting tense while reading it. "Look, I hope, uh, Rocky's okay. That little guy is, uh, so friggin' cool."
