Even controlling for hours worked, men earn more per hour.
Why does the gap exist? This data can't answer that, but it can show what doesn't explain it: paid hours worked and education have nothing to do with it.

Part of the story: men work more paid hours per week.
Note: This chart only considers paid work. Women spend roughly twice as many hours on unpaid domestic and care work (INDEC, 2021).
On average, men also earn more per month.
At every education level, men's average monthly income exceeds women's.
It starts with access to paid work.
Men have consistently higher employment rates than women across all education levels. The gap is widest among those with incomplete primary education (41% vs 23%).
In Argentina, women earn between 14% and 26% less per hour worked than men, depending on education level.
The gap shrinks with more education, but never closes.
A data story in 5 charts, from Argentina's latest household survey (EPH-INDEC, Q3 2025)🧵👇

Similar trend in Argentina: we now have the lowest measles vaccination rate in South America. Well done, social media and science-denying politicians!

An Argentine legend was born 76 years ago. In his honor, Argentina celebrates today the "National Musician Day".

I am usually happy when I share a new data visualization, but not this time.
Each dot is a signal of extreme heat detected by NASA satellites. Over 10,000 hectares (~24,710 acres) of native forest are already affected. This National Park is home to some of the oldest trees on Earth.

I had fun doing this, but I must admit: It was an unnecessarily complicated way to visualize price data 😅

I made a #dataviz where I am part of the data! Proud to be one of the 85k+ that show up every week.

Ozzy Osbourne would have turned 77 today. Millions still listen to his music, and so will remain.
Legendary artist, immortal songs. May you rest in peace 🖤🤘💜

Seeing this data I wonder, is the controversy coming from specific ingredients? I can imagine peanuts (Snickers) and coconut (Bounty) being the drivers of controversy.
I was curious about the passing stats of @fcbarcelonabr.bsky.social and @fcbfemeni.bsky.social so far.
Mapi León has the highest avg. successful pass distance with 1640m per 90'. The most accurate non-GK passer was Andreas Christensen (96.2%).

We love football in Argentina, but women receive little to no support whatsoever when trying to pursue a career as professional footballers.
Hopefully we can change this someday.

Wondering if you can outsource your data viz work to ChatGPT? 📊
I tested out a few different generative AI tools, giving them prompts to visualise two different data sets. If you're interested in the results, you can read them here: nrennie.rbind.io/blog/gen-ai-...

Combo chart showing: Inflation rate: Columns Private sector jobs: Line Official data (INDEC, SIPA) from Argentina. Monthly frequency. The chart shows conflicting trends: Yes, inflation has been declining (good for the economy) but at the same time jobs are being lost (bad for the economy)
Is the economy doing alright? Yes, inflation is dropping! No, jobs are declining! Reality is complex.
We live in a time when cherry-picking and confirmation bias are at their peak. Critical thinking doesn't sell much, unfortunately.

The Minister of Economy spoke and the markets listened... Making bold statements about the dollar never ends well for Argentine politicians. History repeats itself.

Football teams with expensive players tend to obtain more points (duh)
But when we look at the data in a scatterplot by quadrants, we can immediately spot the overpeforming teams (cheap, many points) and the letdowns (expensive, few points)

Bar chart showing the points earned per 10 million euro invested in the squad, of the 8 leading teams of each group of the Copa Libertadores 2025, after matchday 5. Central Córdoba has earned 11 points with a squad only worth 16 million euro.
Copa Libertadores' Matchday 5 is done. Central Córdoba leads Group C with a €16M squad. Flamengo, worth €220M, is 2nd.
Anyway, here are the points earned per every € 10 million invested after Matchday 5 (group leaders only).

Column chart showing the loss of purchasing power of the Argentine Peso, by year. The loss of purchasing power is calculated as (1 - (1/(1+inflation))), where inflation is the inflation rate of the year, in decimal format.
Imagine forgetting a $100 bill in a drawer at the start of the year, and when you find it in December, it's only worth what $32.10 could buy back in January.
That was Argentina in 2023.

In under 3 years, Argentina went from "ridiculously cheap" to "painfully expensive" for travelers.
On the other hand, Argentinians vacationing abroad doubled in 2025 compared to 2024 (1.3 million people), with the favorite destination being Brazil (they spent $465.3M Q1 2025).

Wonderful. Just curious, do you build the base visual in ggplot and add the title, texts and other labels in PowerPoint/external software? Or is this 100% ggplot?
